Alganon is scheduled for launch in less than a week, and has already released its first State of the Game address.
The first piece of information is good news: they are set for the December 1st launch with no delays in sight. The Alganon team has been working hard lately, taking the servers down more frequently to patch and update, which should help to minimize problems at launch. The address did mention the postponement of the original launch date, citing a desire for the most polished game possible -- reasoning that we can certainly support.
The address sent out a big thank you to the Alganon community and beta testers, expressing appreciation for their enthusiasm in expressing feedback, opinions and suggestions, both in game and on the forums. Alganon didn't hesitate to tackle the tougher questions either, specifically those dealing with a rocky ride for beta testers, and the oft-asked question "Why does this game look so much like WoW?"
The full address can be viewed at the official site, and we wish Alganon the best of luck on next week's launch.

If it was just a WoW UI reskin the point would be moot.
Unfortunately the whole game is a brick by brick copy of WoW, not a clone, a near exact copy....well...except for the bits they stole directly from Eve that is.
Worse still, they managed to make it a characterless bland copy complete devoid of life and or emotion.

Yipes, I musta missed this launch announcement...this thing is ready to go?
NDA was lifted I'm assuming? I need to read up on this one. I haven't seen any feedback at all on this.
Talk about getting lost in the crowd. Is there anything that makes this game stand out from its peers?
You know what wouldn't kill a small dev house like this one? If they abosutely HAVE to make a game that looks styled after WoW, at least make it a SciFi game. That would probably go over pretty well. Do something like Rifts, Robotech or Serenity or dozens of other ideas...make something up for Petes sake...use some imagination...
Blah blah blah....
It's recycled fantasy that's done over and over that is murdering this genre. "Cool another nondescript fantasy MMO that more then likely won't work right at launch!"
That's why this genre is the laughing stock of the gamer community.

I think the Dev comments concerning the uncanny resemblance of Alganon to WoW was rather poorly handled. Anyone that has played that game for more than ten minutes knows that it isn't just a visual similarity. Anyone who thinks differently is kidding themselves.

Well the bottom line is it's a game that has a lot of similarity to WoW but a significantly older player population and a small, fairly close-knit community. If you hate WoW, you're going to hate this game. If you like WoW but can't stand the people who play WoW, then it's worth looking at.
Of course, the problem with WoW is that half the decent people there are playing because that's what their friends play. So Alganon isn't going to pick up those people, even if they are attracted to the idea of it. It's never going to be huge, but there may be a niche market for it. Time will tell.

I spent a while in the Alganon beta and I got to say whatever incredible origionality David Allen may have had with horisons died with that game.
The blunt truth of it is Alganon is a third rate WoW clone with an Eve style secondary progression system tacked on.
Now I know that the "OMG GAME X IZ A WOW CLONE" is overused but in this case it is TOTALLY accurate.
The UI is blatently copied from WoW. There are lots of things like weapon skills and talent points that you can argue, "Well WoW didn't invent that," or "Other games have that too" if you really want.
