Any DnD fan is going to be familiar with the Drow, and it's pretty much a given that they would be a playable race in Dungeons and Dragons Online. If you're not familiar with them, Turbine has given us a series of beautiful screenshots with a closer look at the Drow.
The official site has a history of the Drow as well, if you are hoping for a bit more background: Most drow choose a life of adventure out of necessity, given the dangers of their homeland. Still, they greatly desire personal power, and many drow take up the mantle of adventurer seeking to satisfy their ambitions. Most drow follow the evil scorpion-god Vulkoor, though exposure to the cultures of Stormreach has brought a few of them to less malevolent deities.
If these screenshots are enough to get you interested in checking out the Drow race further you can explore more of their story and the prerequisites for unlocking them as a playable race, as well as inherent abilities and enhancements on the DDO site.

I thought they followed the Spider Queen Lolth? Or is that just in the Forgotten Realms? Regardless, I'm saving my Turbine points to buy this race. I think it's the most interesting in the entire lore. It makes sense for Turbine to lock it.

Drow unlocks for free with 400 favor. You don't need that many quests completed to do so.. just run the free korthos/marketplace/harbor quests.

I have to say, the screenshots are very disappointing. There seems to be something completely unnatural and disjointed in the characters. Heads are too large, arms look like they are held together by wire. Very wonky looking, not the quality I would expect from Turbine.

Agreed. I know some people seem pretty happy with DDO overall, but I honestly think the character models are horrendous. Just my personal taste.

Drows in Eberron are different. They don't need to hide in darkness, they were slaves to giants for thousand+ of years. When giants died (well, most of them), so did their imperium. Then Drows elves from Eberron were already used to live under sunlight, and many years later men and other races came to the continent we talk about - Xen'Drik.
This is the place where DDO (most of it) is placed to date. Continent of Xen'Drik isn't the main continent of Eberron, it's a new-found one, one still to be conquered. Races who came there either fight dark elves, or are friends with them - dark elves (drow) are far from being united...
Most dark elves don't know much about their origings, thousad years of slavery did them much hurt. But this race hides dark secrets, and is one of the oldest races of Eberron. It is possible that there are some places on Xen'Drik, where drow could learn about their lost power and glory.
Either way, sunlight isn't a problem for them, although they prefer dusk (feel more comfortable with it) and see very well in complete darkness.

I'm hoping they add more D&D races, like half-orcs & more classes such as Druid, though I too agree that the character models could use some tweaking when you see all of the races alongside each other they don't seem so "wonky" rather it fits right in with the style of the game.
