This isn't often a question we find ourselves asking others when it comes to character creation in an MMO, but, well Star Trek Online is different in this regard. Considering the very specific sort of wish fulfillment Cryptic's next game offers, do you plan to first create a fictional captain or in-game version of yourself to captain a starship?
You see, we began thinking on this very subject not too long ago and a dilemma struck. While being a Vulcan or some odd new species is undoubtedly a tempting concept, seeing ourselves sitting in the captain's chair is nearly as exciting. Considering Cryptic's knack for powerful character creation tools, we've no doubt that coming up with a close approximation of our likeness wouldn't be too difficult.
We know that every Star Trek fan is going to create themselves at some point but your first "main" is so very important. Since creating a Klingon-sided character is unlocked after some initial Federation play, we're thinking of making ourselves first, and then, wait for it... a Gorn second. Yes!

UltimateQ, the game hasn't been released yet and even if it had been no one asked this question when Aion or Fallen Earth came out. If you want to make the argument that the character generator is more robust then you could write an opinion piece about APB, or just make it a generic question. They chose not to and pointed out that STO somehow fulfills more fantasies for people than your average MMO. Why?

I wasn't even talking about your post, I responding to Archamge, and I said that very specifically.
But it sounds to me like you're butthurt about something. This is just fun and harmless speculation about an up-coming title. Release dates are announced, people are excited, it's a hot topic. Get over it. Don't like it? Don't read it. Simple as that.
Massively would be STUPID not to cover this game as much as they are doing, it's how they make money.

I'm not sure if I will be picking up Star Trek Online or not, but I have been pondering it a bit, it looks promising. My first reaction would be to make a likeness of myself, and lead a Federation Enterprise... I mean that just seems naturally to anyone who grew up with any of the series.
But who am I kidding, I can't NOT play a Klingon, I'm too blood-thirsty to pass for a Federation commander.
As for the coverage whining, Massively covers games as the info is released, STO is one of the biggest next releases, not much available on SWTOR at the moment. I'll take anything over the nonstop, daily EVE updates. ;)

I got a bonus check at work on Friday so I pre-ordered STO for the Borg BO. I wanted the Connie, but I've been burned by Game Stop so I won't buy from them for a while.
I did like the first two Star Fleet Command games for the tactics & strategy in combat. I hope STO will capture some of that combat model and have plenty of non-combat things to do. I also hope STO can capture some of the big universe feel that EVE has.
