My characters are always a little bit "me"... this one will likely not be different.

MMOs for me have become more arcade like. I haven't "connected" with my character since the days of EQ1 and Asheron's Call.

As far as STO is concerned, I don't think it'll be even remotely close to the fantastic Star Trek: Bridge Commander game which did a superb job of making you feel like a starship captain. Guess we'll see in a few months.

You said it. I'm excited about this game, but I fear it may not give us that Star Trek feel that we all desire.

Oh it will be me alright. Admiral has such a nice ring to it. But you can guarantee I'll be playing a Klingon Alt too. After that, I'm sure I'll have one of each main staple race and maybe one or 2 custom races. Alt Itis isn't a bad thing, I just hope the game allows for very nice replay value through each alt.

I never play mmo's as if I am the character, more so like I am the "higher power" or guardian angel guiding my character's destiny.

So I will likely never create a character in STO that is me.

Assuming all races that have been used in more than one episode are available in STO I plan my main to be Jem'hadar, or some mix of them and ?

You also have the ability to create your own race.

I connect with all of my characters. I see them as children that I am raising, then at max level they are an extension of myself, representing my malevolence and will of destruction upon the world.

Explain to me how this is such a novel thing? How is an in-game simulacra of a Star Trek fan at the helm of a Federation starship any more fulfilling than one of a Star Wars fan twirling a lightsaber or that of a fan of gangster flicks running through the streets of San Paro?

And so we continue the tradition of pandering weekly to the minutial features of another Cryptic release that other games share but don't brag about because they're so proud of other features, like gameplay and immersive story. While it's possible that the people at massively are fans of the Star Trek IP, I find it hard to believe that a story like this, fluffy as it is, would be written for a game that isn't being developed by Cryptic. Why, I cannot say.

Honesty, the sheer amount of coverage that Massively has given this title has turned me off quite a bit. Seemed for a while there, you couldn't go a day without seeing two or more Star Trek stories posted. Way too over-hyped.

Archmage they do it with EVERY new release. It's standard, this game isn't getting any special treatment.

Its different because many star trek fans are obsessive and started putting on their uniforms, ears and ridges 40 years ago.

Despite Cryptic's amazing race creation tools giving us the ability to create any race that we wish (oh god, not furries in Star Trek!), I think I am going to create myself at first. The characters that I usually end up sticking with are the ones that I base on myself. There is a small percentage of characters I stick with that are completely unlike me, so eventually I'm thinking Gorn too.

Don't blame Massively for Cryptic's deft use of slowly dribbling out information for an upcoming title. Cryptic marketing is really good at re-focusing the MMO news cycle on their titles with ongoing news fragments.

All naysayers here need a wake up check. What is the next big mmo to launch? STO! That's why you are seeing more. Same as before this Aion was getting a ton of publicity. Its the nature of the beast. Marketing and what is Hot. After STO I'm sure we'll see a ton on the next mmo, probably FFXIV or another slated for early release next year.

Exactly. The closer a game gets to launch, the more they have to say about it. To sit and whine about the fact thet they are (oh noes!) giving you info on an upcoming game is silly. If you don't like the game or Cryptic, stop reading stories about them. I speed right past Eve, APB, and all the cheesy looking F2P crap.

Half the time all I ever see on Massively is EVE crap, but you don't see me complaining. STO hasn't been covered THAT much, sheesh.

My first character in any MMO is usually the me I want to be, though that character usually don't look like me at all..
