Oops I meant Apez.biz not Apez.bix.

I agree that Xstreet is best used as a products (as opposed to 'place') search engine for SL and that's how I've always viewed it. In response to the changes I will probably leave one product in each category listed on Xstreet and direct people to my stores for the rest.

I've only ever made a fraction of my sales directly thru Xstreet and I'm quite happy to make even fewer of them there in the future - I never felt any need to pay LL commission on my sales, I already pay them enough in land tier. Not sure this is their intended outcome however, they seem to be naïve enough to believe that we'll only remove our unpopular content and leave all the good stuff for them to cream commission from. Quite funny really...

Personally, I think this move was intended primarily to push small hobbyist merchants off Xstreet, and its working. Its all part of the newlook pro-level SL 2.0 that's gonna wow the masses

Ironically, they could be opening up a door for Blue Mars as they shift toward that direction. As SL gets increasingly restrictive in what kinds of content can be made and seen, Blue Mars in the meantime has been doing their homework and will open with their policies already in place, and without being saddled with a legacy of disappointing their base. And there are indications that their content policies may turn out to be more open and liberal than expected.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Let's hope the BMars folks are indeed taking notice and will not repeat the same mistakes of LL. There isn't any real alternative to SL otherwise, yet.

That's the way I see it as well. The ironic thing is that LL seems to be doing their darnedest to tear down the community of creative socialites they have, and turn SL into a clone of the expected business model of Blue Mars... except dragging a legacy of old technology.
As I have said before: If I am to be in a Disneyfied world of corporate-controlled commercialism, I may as well be in the one with the latest and greatest technology and smoothest entertainment value.
It really baffles me that LL seems hell-bent on getting rid on what they already excel at, to compete against a top-tuned newcomer in a different market.

I love how the policy is about *freebie* management, but in the last paragraph they casually mention "oh, by the way, we'll be charging a tax for ALL items, have a nice day". An immediate gain of 10 million L$ per moth with zero effort.

I guess it makes sense, in this thread (https://blogs.secondlife.com/thread/4727) Pink Linden mentions, that they can't add new features for free. So this way we got a new feature (a freebie witch-hunt-o-matic) and we'll ALL pay for it, even though the majority of merchants is apparently opposed to the idea.

Way to go, Pink, you're a true Linden now!

As of December 1st I will be taking down my in-world business.. To be honest, it's been a long time coming. LL has completely destroyed SL in my opinion. This was just the straw that broke the camel's back. I hope they are happy with the results.

Wow Jacek, now that's amazing... I have totally missed that "rule"... where's the free market now!? Why shouldn't I list items at the price I wish? :( I'm not even sure if all my products are sold at the same price in-world...

Anyway, XStreetSL was really needing some competition... :)

Well - amongst many others.. I've ditched XStreet and will be moving to slapt.me. I could up my prices and have the customer pay for the LL's extortion but I don't feel they should have to. I don't want to make megabucks from SL I just want to pay my way without dipping into real cash and to make some cool things for other people to play with.

This was another very poorly thought out idea from LL,especially as usuall the moderators didn't even think of good lies to tell as to reasons why lol which created yet another full blown rage on the forums and created lots of advertising for third party sites such as http://www.apez.biz which i think is better by far then the market farce LL made of SLX.

People can adapt. If you want to give out freebies, create a group for that purpose, and post the freebies as group notices. The one time L$100 fee to create a group is less than the L$99 per item per month fee they will be charging for freebies on XstreetSL If you feel the need to use Xstreet because it is popular, merge the freebies into a freebie collection, and list it as one item rather than many single items.

It's interesting, how LL makes all those ugly decisions in October/November. EU VAT exclusion, Open spaces, Xstreet taxes, whatever in the next year...

They seem to be on a yearly schedule, half a year offset: The social ones in March-May (Broadly Offensive, Crackdown at SL5B and Zindra), and the economical in September-November. -The European VAT was in September, and not so much a policy decision as simply following the law. Still, it was them dusting up an economical aspect.

Well crap, how very strange you can't list freebies for free any more? Am I really understanding this right? I wonder who's dumb idea that was? I guess it's time to remove mine...

Hasn't just lost vendors. Small creators are a powerful advertising force in small or large business. Can the Lab afford to loose this set of "true believers", who may have (as in my case) spread the word about the use of Second Life for business?

I was excited by the enterprise solutions recently announced, but that is shelved for now, as I no longer feel inspired to argue the case with other management who are web 1.0 advocates. Well done Linden's, ya may well have just lost 50 grand from us!

if there is concern about being called biased for doing a review of alternatives when XStreet screws up, simply give it the same treatment you will give the others

LL wants people shopping inworld to boost their user hours. Stupidly, they have suddenly become responsible for selling the massive amount of copyrighted items that have been recreated in SL.

Even worse, not only are they killing xstreet but they are deleting large numbers of items from people's inventories due to copyright violations.

If you have anything in your inventory that is a reproduction of a RL item one day you might log in find it is gone in a puff of smoke.

SL is less and less fun everyday :(

It's really simple.

Newbie and no freebies = LInden $ purchase.

As long as newbies can get freebies, they won't buy L$. By removing the vast selection of freebies, LL will make many newbies buy their first money sooner.
