It's probably cheaper for Blizzard to just let this company go out of business in 9-12 months as they're destined to do than even hire the legal team needed to shut them down.

The market is over saturated with garbage games as it is, the fate of this game shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

"I regularly spend time in game talking to players, watching, and I don't see the hatred, spitefulness, and utter garbage that's being spewed out by numerous gamers who seem to be more interested in the sound of their keyboard than common sense. While we admit this beta version of the game still has some bugs (fewer and fewer every day), most people who actually play the game like Alganon. They like it a lot. And they are forming a community of gamers that enjoys playing together without spewing hatred at one another. It's a wonderful thing"

Maybe it's not "hatred, spitefulness and utter garbage". Maybe it's cynicism due to a market oversaturated with the same crap being regurgitated over and over and over.

Maybe it's honesty and good advice from unbiased parties.

The fact that Mr. Allen interprets all the bad word of mouth as some sort of personal attack on his baby really gives a good idea of his frame of mind: delusional and overly defensive. Instead of writing off the scathing criticism as "hateful" maybe he should step outside himself and take a look at the product and try to determine how to address the criticisms and make the game better.

"Right now, the industry standard is to squeeze as much money as they can out of players by introducing cash shops, and forcing them to pay for things that ought to have been part of the game. We don't want to do that. We want Alganon to be a service. You pay us a subscription so we can continue to develop and run a game that you enjoy playing. It's not a product where you hand us money and we hand you a vanity pet, or mount, or epic sword and then walk away. It's an ongoing service where we are here for you."

This right here, regardless of anything else gave me countless amounts of respect. I don't care what anyone says, any man who can say that, I'll at least give his game a second glance.

You do realize that he also wants you to purchase 2 expansions in a year to get all of the features they said would be available on release?

Dunno about the gameplay but judging from the promo videos the textures and art assets are pretty damned obvious copy-pastes.

OK, I took them up on their open beta.

I logged in. I cut them some slack for the game defaulting to itty bitty text and teeny weeny windowed resolution. But! I got passed that and made everything look right after a little poking around. That was easy enough because the options screen felt very familiar to me...

As did Elwynn Forest, I mean... Andar. Fortunately, I was able to kill wolves very efficiently as I was familiar with the Warrior game-play mechanic... I mean.. Soldier.

Come the fuck on, it's a blatant rip-off of WoW. The only significant difference is the "study" mechanic and that while Blizzard appear to have hired numerous artists and designers to create their various art assets from character models to UI elements the folks from Alganon appear to have hired a kid who's really handy with MS Paint.

Someone write down the names of all the people defending this game. We can just put a mark next to their names so that in future we know to just ignore anything they say because they are all clearly delusional.

all you frigging boneheads complaining about keyrings know damn well that once keys made it to the game and started taking up space in your inventory... you'd be bitching about there NOT being keyrings in the game.

Keyrings...wtf?!!?

Everyone is talking about the fact that nearly every single facet of the game is directly lifted from WoW...not just the bloody keyrings LOL!!!

Except for the parts they lifted directly from Eve that is.

Keyrings Puh-lese!

I said it before in the last Alganon article and I'll say it again - MMO players are some of the most pathetic creatures there are. Someone goes out of their way to answer some of the most spiteful questions possible in a considerate and thoughtful manner and yet that's still not good enough.

And the company didn't "trick" anyone into buying a game that's not got a lot of features incorporated. The players of the game know what they were getting into when they purchased the game. All it takes is a little reading comprehension on their site and forums to know what's included and not included in the launch window of the game. Of course, most of you would know that if you actually looked at more than just the screenshots and bitched about it being a ripoff.

There's one thing I'm thankful for about these "it's a WoW ripoff" babies - they won't be playing the final game and and plaguing chat with their incessant complaining and cries. The chats in Alganon have been some of the most courteous, helpful, and mature comments I've seen in the games I've played.

Actually pre orders were up before NDA was lifted and the site wasn't updated until after the release date to tell players which features wouldn't be in at launch.

Exactly. Jason, I could have given you the benefit of the doubt and assumed that you just drooled over every game, no matter how horrible, because that's the easiest way to maintain the favour of developers and keep getting more interviews and more ad revenue, but no.

What you have just posted is a blatant lie. You are a blatant liar.

"All it takes is a little reading comprehension on their site and forums" ?

The game was still under NDA when they launched pre-orders on October 12th, and started trying to lure people into handing over a couple of hundred dollars for 12-month prepaid subscriptions.

NDA did not lift until TWO WEEKS later.

Beta forums were still closed and restricted to people in the closed beta at that time.

The website was not updated with its trite little "Denotes a part of the World Evolution" icons (translation: "not implemented, hopefully might be in the future") until after the NDA lifted.

So please tell us pathetic creatures - what would a little reading comprehension have told us about which of Alganon's hyped features were not actually intended to be in the game at launch?

Even if you can get passed the things supposedly ripped from WoW, in my opinion, the gameplay is downright awful. The animations were clunky and ugly, and the combat was unappealing, buggy and slow. This was my beta experience just last month, so I don't see these major points being completely refined by release.

Ugh, criticism, criticism. Can't anyone leave this guy alone? It seems practically impossible to be successful with a fantasy MMORPG without being called a ripoff these days.
