They've got a couple of weeks to fix things, then they hit the feature freeze before deployment.

Frankly, I'm not at all optimistic that they can fix this in time. Their initial system is SO off-base, and SO late that we really have to wonder about the integrity of their development cycle.

As it is, Dominion is going to hurt the small spaceholding alliances (read: me) most. It's just not going to be possible to sustain our existing space without dramatic taxing, and mandatory mining ops. I'm not paying 15$ a month for a second job.

I kinda have to agree here.

CCP have really good ideas..... on paper, but their implementation sucks balls.
If your going to do a job, do it properly.

There going to have to think thing through a bit more if they expect to bring more people in. I don't see myself coming back anytime soon.

Even if I am trying to get a job with them.

The WH upgrade is really handy, since you'll be able to get more frequent high-sec travel routes from 0.0.

That would be handy, but the devblog stated that it would increase the chance of wormholes to wormhole space spawning.

All sounded better at the fanfest... sigh.

it doesn't change much if anything it will just increase the unoccupied space, small alliances will not have the fund to fill the gap the big alliances will make.

To me everything still looks quite gravy, maybe when you take each upgrade on its own you would get less from it but when you take all the upgrades combined, you would make a lot of money. My opinion is based on the fact that I make 200mil a week doing all the things the upgrades improve now and that's just one man, think about a whole alliance flying through all of these different resources in their systems the alliance would be making billions.

Also considering those hidden asteroid belts would probably consist of rare ore, I don't see how lvl 4 missions would best them... maybe a small or medium grav site but not a large rare ore grav site.

Props to you Brendan for trawling through that threadnaught of Goon tears to bring us the salient points.

With such a big change to an important mechanic, it is only to be expected that they're not going to get it right first time. This is EVE remember, any change will not be set in stone and will be tweaked and fiddled with as it is used.

I don't think the big 0.0 alliances appreciated how much of a change this was going to bring to their current in game lifestyles. No more can they occupy huge swathes of space and leave it empty and devoid of activity. If they want to keep theri space then they're going to have to work damned hard for it. Which is as it should be.

i find it funny still that people are saying that this is useless because highsec L4 running pays more...

note to you guys that think this

CCP has already said that L4 mission agents will be migrating to LOWSEC< so no more easy going L4's especially since ot many Lowsec is more dangerous than nullsec

Hey Chris,

Have you got a source on that level 4 missions are moving to lowsec? This idea has been passed around by players for years and CCP has never to my knowledge supported it. It would ruin the game for far too many highsec-dwelling players, who are by far the largest section of the playerbase.

The system looks like it will do what they want making 0.0 alliance claim less space.
I don't know why people think sov is so important.
You have it where you need it and just use the space around.
Its not just claiming space because they can.
The expansion for me makes 0.0 more accessible because
1) no more titans preventing fights by DD
2) You don't have to invest billions on tower spamming any more.

The cost of the sov claimers on their own i think should go down as you
will still need a few pos to live from but the rest is fine with me.

I think the changes look good. One very important thing to remember is that the new system will be highly modular. They can add upgrades, improve upgrades, reduce upkeep costs, and do all sorts of other things to balance it all out very very easily. It is a much much much better system then the current system, even with the flaws you are indicating. 0.0 is BROKEN right now. Guess who is mostly whining about the changes? Mega-alliances who are happy with the way things are right now. Screw them. So yes, the entirety of 0.0 gameplay needs to be threatened, because it mostly sucks now.

Also, I don't know what systems you have been living in. But giving ten pilots enough resources for them all to be simultaneously making money in one system is a vast improvement. Even in a large system with many belts, once you get to 3 or 4 ratters, the belts become pretty much picked over. One other pilot might clear out all the encounters in a constellation.

Even the best ratting in 0.0 has a hard time keeping with level 4 missions in empire. So what? If people want to hide in empire and grind missions all day, fine. Those people are not made for 0.0 anyways. 0.0 is not about individual pilots being able to fatten their wallets the most. It's about a group of people working together to build something, and that's what the new system allows for. It allows for more opportunities for smaller entities to move out into 0.0 and build something for themselves.

I'm not an expert, or even a current player of EVE, but this seems like it will have interesting consequences for 0.0. With unclaimed space (due to more confined alliance territory) there will be space open for everyone (high-sec, low-sec, pirates, etc.) to compete for the more rare/expensive ores rather than being dominated and held solely by alliance members.

In its first iteration I understood that the costs of owning systems would increase progressively. I was disappointed to see that a flat-rate cost system was next proposed.

I am pleased to hear that the latest proposal would be to discount costs according to increased activity. That may re-dress the balance for some alliances/corps but I can't see how it would help small corps that might aspire to "owning" a system in 0.0.

I agree with you, however, that the current system up-grades appear under-whelming. CCP have to balance risk vs reward in 0.0 and the current proposals appear to me, at least, to mean that the risk in 0.0 still doesn't match the rewards.

At the moment we'll be staying in our little wormhole on 1st December, which is a shame coz' I really hoped that Dominion would be the opportunity to get back to null-sec.
