Shawn, I just wanted to comment and I don't think I have before. I have been a listener for quite some time. i really got into Guild wars a couple of years ago and found your podcast on Virgin worlds. I also started listening to massively and I think Michael Zenke (sp?) was the host.
I will say I was sad to see the end of Guildcast but I do really enjoy massively and want to say keep up the good work.

Oh and because I never got the cool witch and pumpkin masks I wanted to rub in the fact my ritualist now sports a fancy char hat.

Dark Tower died before its time because of a copyright issue...which is why Dark Tower is so expensive on ebay.

You can play online though at http://www.hotflashgames.com/darktower.htm
If you played as a kid, be prepared for the sounds to transport you back in time.

For me, it was Ultima I on the Apple II, Ultima II on the Commodore 64, Ultima III and IV on the Commodore 128.

Then a huge break as I gave real life a shot. Then Ultima Online got me hooked again.

Thank you so much for that Dark Tower link! I loved it as a kid in the 80's and bought my second one at a yardsale in like '96, but that died a decade ago. So awesome.

Great fun to read!

Atari 2600
Atari 800
Atari ST (King's Quest!)
Amiga (Bard's Tale, Faery Tale Adventure)
PC

I never got into D&D but always enjoyed a good fantasy romp in an Electronic game!

The first massively multi-player game that really sucked me in was a MUD by the name of 'GemStone III', I pounded away at that game for a good 3 years or so. I still to this day get the itch to go back and play it.

I've noticed that most people who started to play MMO's that late and believe they have played most all of them don't realize there have been over 150 of them released in the US and about another 50 in different beta stages.

It's funny just how many online RPGs exist that people just don't know about.

So yeah, if you've played about 120 of them, then you've played about 80% of them that exist. I'm guessing that you are one of the many people who don't really realize just how many have been out there (and no I'm not counting a bunch of flash games or anything).

I think he meant he played 80% of the P2P MMO's.
It was an interstaing reading, thanks.

Funny how games can turn your world upside down.

I unfortunately didn't have a wide array of games to choose from when I was growing up, too poor.
So I had to use my imagination more then most kids.
But as the times when on, and I got my own PC (which was underpowered at the time), I found Roms, and went back and played all the classics from Snes and Genesis.

Mostly RPG's and strategy games.
Between them and Magic the Gathering, pretty much shaped my outlook on games.

Didn't get into MMO's until I was 21 or so, with Guild Wars being my first love like Shawn.
Now that I've been around the block, I find I just don't get that much time to play anymore, but rather I spend that time trying to get work for a development studio, namely, CCP.

I think I'd rather make them then play them.

My first games were also Bard's Tale I & II and Wasteland was awesome. I also played a game called Alternate Reality, which came out about the same time.

Man I miss MUDs. And I remember exactly which Wired article you are talking about it because I showed it to my family and friends and they were baffled by the amount of the money the guy made on digital items.
My history was Apple2e & Commodore64 stuff, then MUDs for years (played, built and ran them), then FFXI at launch, Guild Wars for a couple months, finally left FFXI for LotRO beta, some Mythos (so glad HanbitSoft picked it up), some Dungeon Runners, started playing WoW and now I play DDO too.
