Cities XL is nearing the end of their first month post-launch and beginning to look toward what the future holds for the game.
Their first step is the release of their very first content pack, and Cities XL promises more to come on a regular basis. All Cities XL players will now have a new farm model, a high school, and a Ford dealership to add to their growing towns, with even more new content exclusive to Planet Offer players.
The content pack for Planet Offer subscribers will also include an eye-catching Old England building pack, three new maps (Want to live in a crater? You can now.), and three new megastructures. You can gather the resources to build the megastructures, but Cities XL also offers up an interesting addition to their overview: "Check your profile out on a regular basis to see if you are the lucky winner of an Alcatraz prison, a Tokyo Imperial Palace or a 30 St Mary Axe office building!"
The new content is automatically downloaded and installed through the launcher, so you won't need to do anything extra to receive it.

i was interested in this but having seen many comments in beta and launch day i dont know if it was worth it. Reviews said it was rushed, 'not that XL', unbalanced resources, bland and the city didnt 'live' . This still true?

Yep...all still true. The addition of the high school just NOW fixed the education bug in the game. There is still no ambient city noises. Buildings don't change based on economics. There are still plenty of trade bugs. Plus, there's still no competative or cooperative reasons to play online....just chatting and iffy trading.
The blueprint system that they just turned back on (Alcatraz, Tokyo palace, etc) is the same exact system that was complained about in beta. They made no changes to it despite testers informing them that it was boring and useless. Heck, after the initial rush(about two or three weeks), most testers didn't even care about earning "blueprints". When they turrned them off, the hope was major changes were coming.....nope.
Also, before you get too excited about the European content, remember that it consists of only a few buildings, can only be used online, and you must REMAIN a subscriber to keep it. Cancel your sub to play solo only, and kiss your European plaza goodbye.
And there are STILL no mass transit options, and the Multi-lane tool promised at the beginning of development is MIA.
I'd avoid this, still, until at least '10...maybe longer if you're an MMO fan as opposed to a city building fan.
