If you were disappointed to hear of Alganon's recent delay until December 1, this news might cheer you up. We just received word that Alganon open beta is set to launch on Wednesday, November 11, 2009. This is a great opportunity to check out the game for yourself rather than taking other peoples' opinions for it. The client can be downloaded from a number of places including Direct2Drive, Fileplanet, MMORPG.COM, Curse, and the Alganon and MyAlganon websites.
If our previous closed beta key giveaways are any indication of the interest in this new title, open beta should receive a hefty amount of player attention. If you're already in the beta, Quest Online seems to have made a number of improvements across the board that should make for a better gaming experience. We recently caught up with president and co-founder, David Allen, for an interview, so feel free to give it a read while you wait until next Wednesday.

I'm really rather pissed about this, they said they weren't going to do this because they wanted feedback from only people who had vested interest in the game, meaning those that bought it. So I bought the game, tried the beta, found out it was crap. I want my 40 bucks back.

It's because the game is complete crap that they are having to do this. Heck even the beta retention rate is extremely bad. When you can't hold people with free what makes you think its going to do better when its released.
I tried to like the game for several months. But the game has issues and lots of them.
The best way I could describe it is.. If you take everything fun about World of Warcraft and tossed it in a trash can.. Because thats what Alganon is.. Everything that isnt fun about WoW.
I can't believe they are actually going to try and market / sell this game.

From looking at this game i still haven't figured out what it provides that other games don't. It looks like more of the same but with less polish. What is its draw?

That's a good question. I like how, in the interview, the president says: "Alganon is not WoW, but has the "magic" many MMOGs have captured. A player just needs to play it to find this out."
Anyone else just love how vague that is?

The devs for Algalowow found a "still in development" copy of WoW laying around and published it as their own. It might have been fine.... if it was released 9 years ago.

I haven't seen this game, but I don't need to. If I want to play a cheap immitation of WoW I'll play Runes of Magic, not trust my money to the chap behind Horizons!

Oh, man, I cannot WAIT for the floodgates to open and for this hilarious disaster to finally be completey exposed. Oh, sweet, sweet schadenfreude!

Hilarious. It's like Limbo of the Lost, except they're only shamelessly stealing from one game.

I had never heard of Limbo of the Lost (what an awful title) until I read your post, so I looked it up. Good lord, I couldn't believe it at first, but as I read more and more I became increasingly depressed. Then I found clips on YouTube. I am truly astonished that such an abomination ever saw the light of day.

I have been a member of closed beta for a couple of months now, and after the first few days, I didnt make time to come back. I have tried it again last week after several items have been implemented, but I still feel the game is lacking so much. And nothing is smooth and streamlined about it.
Regardless, the community rep about 45 days ago mentioned it was a retail boxed game with a $15/mo subscription, and I just chuckled to myself at my desk. To think these guys HONESTLY believe they can release this game, which reminds me of Runes of Magic, and charge the standard big-release MMO rates...is just ludicrous. This game will hit the ground hard like Crimecraft has, and if they still intend on a P2P system, I bet you it will turn to F2P within a couple of months.

I'm a little confused by the harshness of some of these comments. Does anyone here remember how rough a good number of MMO releases were when they were released... and even some of the most recent ones? Don't get me wrong, as a beta member for a couple months I've seen the big problems with the disconnects and fps stuff, but as a game it's still a serious breath of fresh air. I'm a long time WoW player and keep finding myself getting so bored with playing. I stop playing for several months and then jump back on again. This game is the kind of game I would love to take up those "off months", as it's similar to WoW and many others, but keeps it fun w/ new features (I love the offline progression).
Anyway, yes, the game's graphics look dated in some areas and the animations still need a lot of work, but I keep in mind it's still beta and the game itself hooked me despite any closed beta problems I came across. The pros are still outweighing the cons for me. I'm holding my judgement for when the game comes out and until then will keep enjoying the beta.
