We still don't know nearly as much about Mortal Online as we would like, but the slow deployment of information we've been getting is certainly appealing. With promises of open PvP, long-term repercussions of actions rather than the usual respawns and resets, a crafting system encompassing nearly every item in the game... suffice to say it aims at being a niche game that knows its place and its peers. Unfortunately, as it's in beta and under an NDA, information is slow to be released. The October newsletter for the game has mercifully given us a few more bits of information, most importantly the next features being brought out in testing.
November 1st (that's today!) will see the release of the next beta build, which carries with it the opportunity to start taming and harnessing mounts as well as building houses. The newsletter specifically mentions that building materials -- most likely the type of wood -- will be integral to the home's quality, keeping with the very detail-oriented approach the game has taken so far. There's also an in-game event promised for the patch, which should certainly be a nice bonus for the players lucky enough to take part. For those of us not yet in the testing, however, there's a promise that there are more lore and developer updates coming to the site in the near future. You can currently get into the beta by pre-ordering the game, which might be a bit of a risk for some players... but for the niche Mortal Online is aiming for, it might well be the sort of thing you can't get anywhere else.

It sounds like a great game but I am just not a fan of first person views at all. Won't even give it a shot because of that unfortunately :(

Taming in it's basics was already in (public knowledge).
And there is no patch today, there is an event.
"With the release of v.0.8.10.11 on Monday"
Shouldn't be too hard to understand. ;)

How is this an event and not a patch?
New patch info
"On Sunday Nov. 1st we have some fantastic things in store for you.
With the release of v.0.8.10.11 on Monday we will introduce some of the greatest features Mortal Online has to offer.
Tired of walking through Myrland on foot? Why not tame yourself a mount and start exploring on horseback? If riding is not for you, get your axe and start gathering resources for your new home. The first version of the housing system will enable you to start getting settled, but choose your construction materials wisely as they directly affect the quality of your house."
There is an event while the patch deploys
"To entertain you while the patch is being deployed we invite you to join us on a very special in-game event starting around 21.00 GMT+1."
I love when people tell others "Shouldn't be too hard to understand."
When they themselves do not understand...

Yes, because having an event on a Sunday that leads to a patch on a Monday and will go on while that is done makes that Sunday the day of the patch.

I love sandbox games, love the crafting of pretty much everything that this game claims. The idea of no map (or compass either?) is interesting. I don't like the 1st person lock either. Would love to have had the opportunity to try this, to be apart of the development, it is something a bit different (all for that!) but I'll -NEVER- pay for beta, never.

You're only paying for the beta if getting access is the sole reason you preorder.
When you preorder the game you get a game account and a month of access to the game when it launches, and as an added bonus you get access to the beta before then.
I preordered and I don't regret it. I get to see them putting the world together and the game being built into the finished product, and I'll get a month of game time after the game launches!

The idea of a truly persistent game is quite wonderful, the current "kill that epic boss and he respawns in 10 minutes" is not really as cool as the promise of taking down a boss terrorising your village and actually killing him. The ability for PvP but with ramifications could be a solution to ganking which is my number one hate. (Gankers have no honour)
Then add in a viable crafting system which I as a person who really enjoys crafting more than raiding/grinding/killing gives a lot of reasons to look closely at this game.
The first person is a little sad, especially as your own looks should be important in a persistent sandbox game and that seeing your avatar has always helped me feel more immersed than not seeing it.
Is it worth AUD$65 to pre-order knowing that the company may actually fold and the money be lost? I am starting to think so. Even if I do lose it maybe they will open some ideas for more mainstream games to take. An investment in an idea rather than paying for a working game if I rationalise that way.
Hmmm, a lot to think about here for the promise of something that really appeals to me.

The beta is entirely unplayable, it's a joke. To think they actually charged us money to play this piece of shit, as if its some kind of reward. This is hardly even alpha quality, NOTHING works, ranged combat isn't even in, and melee combat only functions (just barely) with less than 5 people on the screen. Unless it's delayed (for a third time) I don't expect this to get off the ground

You clearly dont know what a beta is. The industry have made people think beta = demo/trial. which is not the case here. and if you been part of the beta and following it since its early days, you would know how long they have gone and how much they have improved. If they keep this up, they will release a game fully playable and very promising indeed. This being a game for a small niche group of players. If you didnt grow up playing MMO's like Ultima Online, or using a newer example, find EVE Online being a great game you enjoy, this could maybe not be the MMO for you.
And also its been delayed one time. Though I never saw them say anything about any exact time for release earlier and they still havent. All we know is they are "aiming for release at the end of this year" which is soon, and we will see.
They also stated the game will have basic features in and they will work on adding stuff as they move on, with all added stuff, expansions and such being free.
