"Said benefit is a more realistic fantasy setting."

Realistic fantasy setting....realistic...fantasy...setting.

In a world of elves, orcs and flying lions what is 'realistic'.?

All the cold hard 'facts' in the world doesn't change the actual fact that this kind of law is restricting someones rights and freedoms. Men and women should be able to choose whatever gender they want to play as. These kinds of games are an escape from reality for most people.

What's so wrog with a man wanting to play as a female? Or a fantasy world that has a large number of female fighters?

It's a fantastic world where anything is possible.

Why should a game thats meant to be entertainment be mired in the horrible sloth of history and repression that we still live in toady?

How about that?

That's my point though, that hundreds of female warriors running around is so ridiculous, that it is even so in a fantasy world. Even when you throw in the "elves, orcs and flying lions", legions of female warriors breaks even the bounds of reasonable fantasy. Certain lores can certainly challenge this; Aion being the best example since your character is no longer human, but a divine being and the sex is truly cosmetic. But in games like AoC, LOTRO, WAR etc, it's a f-ing joke and cheapens the lore and whole gaming world.

It's not ridiculous. It's what what the person who pays for the game and subscription whats to do with their time and money.

If a man wants to play a woman in the game...what does it matter? If it brings hm joy and gives him time away from the real wold what harm is it?

You can't 'make' people fit into a mold in an MMO world...they have their own kinetic existence that can even counter the established lore within the game.

WOW could have made it so that all female nelfs are archer and all male nelfs are druids...but they didn't do that because it would restrict the player too much. They bent things a little so that we could have more fun.

...and that's what it's bout right? it's about having fun.

Because your point of view is wrong, Jess. No matter how you cut it and serve it up on a platter. It's wrong. And when it's wrong, people have the right to disagree. /shrug

Saying that the facts I put forward are wrong does not make them wrong. Everyone is entiteld to their own opinions, but not their own facts. I already said I'm against forcing most kinds of gameplay restrictions (within reason, of course) and am against many of the measures the Chinese are taking. That being said if the topic at hand happened in NA I wouldn't really care.

I'm a chinese, It's only a company's commercial strategy, not government behavior. This strategy can attract more male players, because they know that if there is a female role, she must be a girl
So don't be mis-leaded by this news, the occidental news sites are always tending to smear China

I do not agree that there should be less female fighters. Ok MAYBE lotro should have a bit of balancing since its trying to be a bit more realistic, but seriously - ever seen a gnome warrior fighting a tauren warrior?

Or then again even a tauren tanking a dragon?

Btw I agree with you on the "males are just better in hand to hand combat" part. It's not sexist - men just are generally bigger and stronger which is an advantage. It just doesnt matter since in fantasy games your character can easily kill things that should be able to kill you by just resting its hand/forepaw on you.

While I'm not sure of the rationale for this, I'd guess it's some kind of puritanical thing. But really, you wouldn't have to go back so far in US history to find the same kind of thinking - and of course there are a lot of people who still think that way here.

Cultural norms are changing fast, a lot of Europeans smile and shake their heads at (many) American's squeamishness about nudity. There's a contingent in every culture that gets drug forward into the changing moral milieu kicking, screaming and dragging their feet.

In China they just happen to be in charge... for now.

In the long run this will just decrease the number of female players. I get the feeling the only thing that stops female avatars getting harassed to death is the fear that there may be male player behind the toon.
