As we mentioned last week, we have quite a treat for you today as part of the Fallen Earth Halloween event. We're happy to present 2,000 trial keys for anyone interested in trying out this indie post-apocalyptic game before forking over the cash. This special trial key is good for 15 days, which will bring you through their entire Days of the Dead Halloween event, as well as our own upcoming in-game events.
To get your trial key, simply visit our giveaway page and follow the posted directions. For more information on our in-game events - including a great developer interview - keep reading below.
If you're a veteran Fallen Earth player, or you're just looking for a big party to attend while using your new free trial key, we have the perfect event for you. Tomorrow, October 24th, at 7pm EDT, meet up with us in-game to party with your fellow clones and some members of the Fallen Earth team. Players will need to head to a special destination outside of Boneclaw, at location 4030331 3269656. In order to find this location, players should type /waypoint and enter the above coordinates in the box to create a waypoint to that location. As an incentive for getting there early, we'll be firing up a special Days of the Dead dance party in cooperation with Post Apoc Radio. DJ Apseth (read: my Fallen Earth alter-ego) will be on the air from 6:00 PM Eastern spinning spooky tunes and giving away some free stuff until the beginning of the developer chat.
As another fun way to bring the developer chat to the community, our questions will come from you! Yes, that's right, we'll be asking 10 questions hand-picked from the comments below to Marie "Aro Sei" Croall, Content Team Lead. So if there's something you really want to know about what the Fallen Earth team is planning for the future, or how the game came to be, be sure to get those questions in before 4:00 PM tomorrow (Saturday, October 24) afternoon and then check out the chat.
As if that weren't enough fun for you, we'll be holding a Massively meet-up and dance party next Wednesday, October 28th at 9pm EDT. This time, Post Apoc Radio will be providing the Halloween jams and we'll have even more in-game items to toss around to lucky attendees. There will be apocalyptic trivia and more, so be sure to show up and get your zombie-killing groove on, Fallen Earth style!

I realize first impressions of an mmo are usually always wrong, but there needs to be something there to get you on the treadmill. Unfortunately, I missed the onramp. :(
My first impression? Felt a bit like Eve! "Here's the entire game, have fun!". While the walk through at the beginning got me used to the controls, that was all it did. Then I was forced to choose one of 3 classes (?) of which I knew nothing about. After that I got dropped off in another town with some quests. I feel the new user experience is missing a lot of 'progressive disclosure'.
Coming fresh from experiences in Aion, the scenery and details of the game were good, but the characters and animation are no longer 'on par'. Graphics wise, this game is very modern and detailed, but the characters are a bit clunky. I'm a clone, at least make me look hot. Why would a failing society create homely looking clones? =)
The camera angle was very annoying. Being off center just really tweaked me the wrong way. I ended up playing the game as first person.
Anyways, not a very detailed review, but thought I'd post my impressions, in case anyone cared.

They've included a longer, optional tutorial to cover the basics of crafting, harvesting, and all that. That should help a bit with the "here's the game, have fun" feeling we all got after the first tutorial.
The "Classes" you choose after the tutorial have absolutely nothing to do with your characters starting stats/attributes. All it does is tailor quests more towards which role you want to do. They should probably put a disclaimer on that screen though so people that don't read the forums would also know that (like they do with choosing a starter town).
All in all the game is fun. Sure, it's kind of slow and somewhat clunky in my opinion which will turn a lot of people off, but I'm staying subbed because the world just 'feels' better than alot of MMO's I've played over the last few years.

Questions:
1. What is your endgame concept? Does the current situation with contested towns work as you intended?
2. Factions seem very reduced to skills by players. Is everything as intended here, or will we see some changes with factions/clans?
3. What do you think about FEs economy? Any changes with the economy/crafting ahead?

Downloaded it and after all the updates, even on a fast line it took an entire evening. I got into the game and decided to give the new "tutorial" after the initial "you are level 40 farce" and the first quest didn't work (level 1). How I suspect its because I tried playing on a Saturday evening and there was lots of lag, but it pretty underwhelming. I shall give it another go when fewer people will be on. As far as I can tell its still a buggy, laggy mess.

Nope, nowt to do with the lag, the first quest is in fact bugged. Their solution to the problem? Suggesting you start in a town that is not bugged.
