Make sure you have a LOT of spare time for the grind. And don't mind gold spam or bots.

Here's a pretty decent run-down of what's wrong with the game, courtesy the FoH boards. I couldn't have said it better myself.

http://www.fohguild.org/forums/mmorpg-general-discussion/34410-aion-tower-eternity-412.html#post1532114

1) The Grind (tm) - While this one doesn't bother me too much, since I recall the EQ and DAoC grinds, anybody who started MMORPG'ing with WoW is going to be shocked at the slow leveling speed and lack of quests (and the stupidly low XP for the few quests that do exist).

2) Gold sinks - This game appears to be designed like Lineage 2, where you *MUST* buy kinah online or you're so totally fucked that you can't compete. For the guildies that don't want to craft, this is a game killer. With Soul Healing starting to cost insane sums of money in the mid-30s, people just start logging off in disgust, and won't be there after the free month. This doesn't affect me since I'm a big-time crafter and probably the highest Tailor on my server. In fact, with all of the "bought" kinah flying around, I regularly sell blue crafted items (Tailoring/Alchemy) for over a million kinah each.

3) Flying - Many people just can't get this at all. Being a mature adult RP legion, we have the typical ~40% RL females, and they seem to have the worst time comprehending 3-D fighting. We've already had 4-5 of them just say "fuck it" and cancel. I'm a Private Pilot with air traffic control training so this shit is natural - and fun as hell - to me, but many people just aren't going to ever get it.

4) "Levels = GOD" - This is most definitely one of the Top 5 Worst Game Design Decisions Of All Time. Those fucking Koreans apparently have to compensate for small penis size by making games where you're totally invulnerable if you have 5-6 levels on somebody else. Since most in my legion are "casual" players, going out to the Abyss for a legion run and having one poop-socking kid playing his level 45 Assassin be 100% invulnerable while killing most of our legion by himself is absolutely fucking retarded beyond all redemption.

5) NC-Soft CS - Totally non-existent, and obviously in some sort of "pay-to-play" arrangement with the kinah farmers/botter/sellers. It's just not possible for a company with even one employee/GM that gives a shit to have such a massive disaster of bots running free in their game. When I go to the high-30s areas and see the same 100 bots out there that I /AutoReport'd two weeks ago, your game is going to inspire hatred for your company to a huge degree. Intelligent adults won't keep giving their money to a company as corrupt/incompetent as to continue to allow this crazy level of bots around.

6) Client performance - There isn't a single member of my legion who hasn't crashed multiple times during fortress fights. Even when you're not crashing, it's pretty much a "TAB-target and nuke" mini-game with 5 FPS, even on the best possible PC you can buy today. They needed a lot more servers with much lower population, since the client just obviously can't handle all this shit. I have a great PC, so it's still modestly entertaining. Those with older PC's will all cancel before the end of the first month.

I agree with pretty much all your points, but have some trouble understanding #4; if a player 5-6 levels above another is invincible, the opposite would make things worse.

Things are balanced around everybody being lv50 in a PvP setting, the game hasn't been out for a month yet and a vast majority of players aren't at the same level.

Nice. You managed to insult both Koreans AND women in your post.

I have not had an issue with money whatsoever. The game is obviously designed to get people to PLAY it, that means farming, crafting, and creating alts to play it.

Do any of these things, and money problems are solved.

AS for levelling...well clerics are indeed painful. But the other classes seem to move right along.

Look, this is a game that wants to make money. Letting people level to cap within a few weeks is obviously counterproductive to the game.

I am impressed with the quality of the game. Is it the best I have ever played? Well, how do you define 'best'?

Sorry you do not like it. Plenty of others do....

Seriously man quoting FoH boards?People there, are the adepts of Nombrilism, arrogant and overzealous and are never happy with whatever a game company do.Lots of games have partly failed because some Devs have been listening to them.

As for me I have been enjoying the game since day one up to now as a 25 Cleric.Yes,money can be an issue if you power level or rush to end game, dying too often have consequences and so what?People always complain, rant and whine. It's quite simple if you don`t like it don`t play.

For those who really want to have an objective point of view on the game follow this link http://www.keenandgraev.com/?p=3031

What you appear to be saying in short, is that the whiny, entitled kiddies who want everything handed to them RIGHT NOW and the incompetent idiots who struggle to use their WASD keys and a mouse at the same time, don't really like the game very much? In other words, WoW is still popular with the masses.

In which case.. SCORE!

Hopefully they can just get the gold spammers and botters under control and it will all rock.

you are sooooo wrong on the last one!
this game runs way better than any game i have tryed even wow.
i run 50 fps all the time even with very high populated servers.
i run with 2 gigs of memory nvidia gforce 8800 Gt card and some other shitty stuff, my client has only crashed once since i started playing and ive been in almost all betas.
aion runs very well.

Honest question, are you in the Abyss yet? Reason I ask is many are crashing, but many aren't and there's no word from NCsoft about those CrySystem.dll crashes in heavy-pop areas.

I love the game, I just wish they'd take care of the frustrating client crash bug (crysystem.dll and all that jazz), it makes PvP impossible and I have little to no desire to level to 50 via safe & quiet questing.

I gave the game two weeks and I kick myself in the rear for buying it. It is a great looking game and it ran well on my system. But I found the community to be filled with apoligist for the gold sellers and spam as far as the eye can see. I know the forums of games are mostly full of jerk wads but good lord this game has a ton of them in it. I would give this game away if it were not tied to my guild wars account now. I mean the only game that frustrated me this much was FFXI and I have played grindy games before I played old school EQ and played ultima online.
