Also, I guess I'll be throwing a sorc/wizard into the mix. We seem to be lacking them. Damn my late night posting!

Just downloaded this game myself to give it a try. Unfortunately it's crashed twice on me in a short space of time forcing me to do a hard reboot both times. So I may not be able to join in on the fun :(.

I just started in Khyber with a few friends, and may create a wizard/sorcerer to join in the fun as well! I'm really pleased I found this post in time to be part of the fun. Though I haven't read your previous work I can see that you'll add more than "I ran some quests and got some fat lewts" comments about the game for those of us that are new or never played it.

Also I second (or 5th) the guild creation, whether you run it or not. It would be waay more convieniant.

I think you should follow along with what the NPCs tell you to do in Korthos Village. You don't have to do the quests in the order that they say, but it flows along in a nice story if you do. The loot and leveling will come naturally as you do the quests. Finally, if you want to start a guild, I would recommend finding a friendly VIP to found it for you, since that is free for VIPs. He can pass leadership to you pretty much immediately, I believe.

And I probably should have read all of the comments regarding guilds BEFORE replying. Doh!

You're off to a good start! Ranged combat is challenging indeed, but at lower levels you'll be effective so long as you pick up a good set of melee equipment.

You should start following Sigmund's story arc to go to Misery's Peak.. I recommend you try both soloing and pick-up groups to get a feel for both experiences -- one thing to be aware of is that some people will be unable to group with you because they are in the post-Misery's Peak experience (aka "Sunny Korthos").

Going f2p as you are I'd recommend grabbing the first "level sigil" you get from an end reward so you can progress past level 4 (after all, the real fun starts at level 6 for arcane archers) and horde the turbine points you get from favor* to pick up adventure areas. You should consider Shan-to-Kor, Tangleroot, and Delera's when you have enough points for an adventure pack.

*and this is a reason to repeat a quest to elite difficulty - that's the best way to pick up favor.

Look for scroogilack tonight in instance 1 of snowy korthos island...

Be handing out some cure moderate potions, maybe some gems.

Help answering questions.

Welcome to Khyber!

All right, I'm downloading the game and am going to set up a character on Khyber. I'll try to get in time to join you tonight or if not, then tomorrow.

For people who don't want to go the pre-made path, I was given this link to templates for new characters: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=147492

That might help people create their own. I'm going to look at the options and compare but some of these templates look pretty cool.

"I chose the Arcane Archer path for this Ranger because I want to focus on ranged attacks"

The DDO player in me died a little when I read that.

Though I guess it could have been worse... you could have gone with a Monk Shuriken thrower.... but I can't really think of much worse

[Ranged fighting is horrendous... attack speed is the slowest and so is damage... Hopefully the people you play with won't give you a hard time for being useless in the party :P Trust me, you will be ]

Just a hint. Leveling sigils do not drop in Korthos, unfortunately. Even though the loot is pretty top-notch for level in Korthos, it's best to go to Stormreach as soon as you can to get your sigil, then come back to Korthos for gear.
