Age of Conan has seen its share of ups and downs in this first year since launch, but the ride seems to be smoothing out lately. The first expansion is on the way, new content has been offered, and the PvP side is getting some extra attention. Community manager Oliver "Tarib" Kunz even took a bit of time lately to lay out a patch timeline for players, to let them know what's coming up. Back in July, a list of "10 reasons to give it another look", included free account reactivation for two weeks.
Now Funcom is issuing a similar invitation to everyone, reintroducing the free trial for players looking to try Age of Conan, and those wanting to take a second look at the new and improved game. This time they're offering 7 days of full game access, although there are some restrictions on things like trading, public chat channels, forums, and in-game mail.)
If you want a closer look at what Funcom has been up to with Age of Conan lately, visit the trial website to take them up on their offer.

I have heard that the intro/starter portion to AoC is solo, but how soloable is the rest of the game once you are out of the starter area?
If I were to try AoC out, I would want to know how much I can do on my own if I have to.
Also, I have heard that the hardware requirements for this game to run decently are pretty heavy. Is that still true?

Tom you can solo all the way up to 80 if you want. You'll miss out on some really fun group dungeons though. The first great one in my opinion is Sanctum of the Burning Souls. There is just so much loot to be had in there for low levels. Black Castle is fun but is also very long compared to Sanctum.
A good guild that fits your playstyle makes these group dungeons 100x times more enjoyable than PUGs. It can be done and I PUG all the time, but a good guild is what makes most MMOs fun in the first place and this is true in my opinion in AoC when it comes to grouping.
If you're pressed for time AoC will let you solo well and still get some great experience.

I've only ever made up to the mid-30's (lack of time more than anything), and so far soloing has been easy. On the other hand, I haven't done any group instances (although I do see people LFGing them). I'm also not in a guild or anything.
I play a necro, and find it to be solo-friendly, although there are better classes for solo play.

I am really impressed with the direction Funcom (Craig Morrison) has taken this game.
I resubbed at the last free trial and have been having a blast ever since. They have made HUGE accomplishments in turning this game around.
On top of all that, the expansion looks like it is going to be INSANE.
Tiger mounts!! RAAWWRR!!!

I think Age of Conan is the only game of last year that earn new subs!

This was such a failure of an MMO, if you can even call it that. Somehow an M rated game, that was more simplistic and handholding and linear than the super casual WoW, and heavily over instanced, only 50 people per zone? Not being allowed to go back to lower level zones once you outleveled them? They seriously call this an MMO?

I've thought about going back to this one, but it was such a huge disappointment that I have been unwilling to invest the time. I would love to hear what some of the people still playing it cite as their motivation to play AOC vs. other MMOs.

I really think that Funcom needs a permanent 10 day trial offer instead of these once and while trials (7 days only, too short).
This trial is only for new accounts not existing account, so as someone who as an expired account I cannot use this. Funcom please learn from Turbine and offer anytime 10-day trial along with various "Welcome Back Weekends".

As far as i appreciate trial offer, some of its restrictions ruined the gameplay for me. Global channel turned off, no whispering, really, it was like i found myself completely alone in some silent world, with no way to participate in community - or to check if community is even there... AoC on this trial looks more like a single player rpg than mmo for me. Not very encouraging.
