Hum.

I was hoping it'd be more of an Alliance Horde deal. Well, as long as the Klingon side is as fully fleshed-out as the Federation side, I guess it's okay.

I know they said it wouldn't be like Monster Play, but if it's ANYTHING like Monster Play, that'd suck a lot.

I never thought I'd see the day where LOTRO's (Meh) Monster Play system actually influenced something.

It sounds NOTHING like Monstor Play, its basicly just a way of having all players channelled into the same starting areas, and then accessing other races later. Its a cost cutting measure, as well as a measure of ensuring theres always other people in the same starting area to play with. I have no idea why Eurogamer brought up Monstor Play, because it really doesnt sound anything like it.

I said influenced by Monster Play, and the fact I came to that conclusion BEFORE I read the article is quite telling. Apparently Eurogamer noticed a smiliar relationship. Cryptic are taking the system much further, which is great, but don't kid yourself, the similarities are there.

Didn't they say previously that the Klingon starting experience would be the same as the Federation starting experience? That's less fun.

An intriguing twist; got to think that making the Klingon side locked initially will seriously dent their population (lots of people commited to their Federation character by then), but on the other hand - since there is a PvP divide - I imagine lots of the Klingon "leet" players will be happy with this filter.

Goodness will it make forums a nightmare though! A two-faction system where one side has a 100% clear numbers advantage and domination of the casual market - there'll be a whole new lexicon of Fedtard variants and crowing that 'serious' players only choose Klingon. ^_^

I'd say it's also safe to assume that the forums and Federation starter zone will be jam-packed with "how do I play a Klingon?" from beta through to the (distant) day they pull the plug.

Not necessarily. If it's just a matter of getting through the game's starting tutorial stuff that every MMO has so Cryptic doesn't have to design a separate tutorial experience for the Klingons (really, wouldn't make much sense anyway for a Klingon tutorial), the only real impact would be in the first couple of hours after launch. We still don't know where that cut-off is.

For me "unlock" the access to other races ingame, instead of have initial races with separate starting areas, is a good system for facilitate add new factions (Romulans, etc.) after launch without the need to working in a whole starting area for every new race or force veteran players to do the tutorial and starting areas if they want play with a diferent faction.

Less work in boring content and more work in create a diferent advaced gameplay for every faction.

In example more story driven and exploration content for federation, more combat and PvP for Klingons, more comercial and crafting themes for Ferengi, etc.
