Everyone is worried about the Jedi player population when it comes to Star Wars: The Old Republic, but the Sith are in every way a likely -- if not moreso -- threat. With franchise analogs like Vader and Maul, there's going to be a lot of people auto-running around the game to the tune of Imperial March.
Even BioWare seems to think the Sith are kind of a big deal in this new developer blog promoting the greatness of embracing the darkness within us all. We're not even exaggerating in this case, the blog really does go on for quite some time about how awesome dark Jedi are -- so don't be too shocked when legions of Sith roam the battlefield looking for Republic blood.

Well, I'm going to generalize here:
I will very gladly join the non-Jedi and non-Sith races just to stay away from the OMGIAMTHEBADDESTSITHLORDLOL folks.
Does that make me a racist?

I acutally think more people will play Sith as opposed to Jedi. Why?? Because look at Aion..they are having real troubles getting people to play the Elyos side compared to Asmos...
People like playing the dark side!

Wow, I've been cringing every time they promote Sith in interviews and stuff solely because of how WAR launched with Order being devastatingly outnumbered.
Sith are cool, being bad in (Bioware) games is crazy fun. I don't think lack of dark siders will be a problem PARTICULARLY if they promote PvP. PvPers are notoriously infatuated with being the bad guys.

Not sure why people would worry there's going to be too many jedi. Didn't they decide on the timeline of this game setting based on the fact there WERE thousands of jedi at this time period? Wouldn't that just fit in with the setting they've chosen?
PS - I'll be rollin' Bounty Hunter just like I did before. :)

Exactly. Bioware's Old Republic setting was designed to absorb the notion of thousands of Jedi and Sith openly running about, fighting each other.
Beyond this, I agree with what others have already said: I think we'll see a huge number of Jedi and Sith at game launch, because most players will want to _try_ the iconic Force users -- but, I suspect, once the novelty wears off, many players will gravitate toward whichever main class suits their playstyle.
I know I'll have a Jedi character, but I suspect that a Smuggler will end up being my character of choice.

I think anyone who played SWG is worried about the balance issue for the most part. Its not that people care what class someone else chooses but if 80% of people are jedi/sith its going to be tough to get a balanced group. Personally I love the BH. Always have always will. I was a BH in SWG and will be in TOR. However if there is not enough diversity of classes then the game as a whole could fail.
Someone mentioned that you should not care what other people play and you should just play what you want. Imagine logging onto wow and 80% of the serve is mages and warlocks. Good luck finding a healer and a tank or any other melee. Now we know this wouldn't happen in wow because it is designed well with balance in mind but they also don't have the OMG class like jedi.

I guess what is important to take into consideration, is that the time line allows for each class to be inflated in numbers quite a bit. In fact I think Bioware is trying to instill that very point, that it's "OK" to be a Sith, there isn't only the Master, and apprentice that appear in later timelines.. getcha darkside on.
