You know, i'd really like to hop back into WAR but i'm afraid of joining a game with no one to play with. Last i remember the pop was at about 300k players but that was some time ago and from other articles and such it seems like that number had only dropped. I have it downloaded and my account ready to activate but would really like to see a welcome back week similar to LOTRO where you can get a free week of gameplay.

I read the news on WAR from time to time but have not decided if I want to play again.

Free trial is always an option, but I think the server I am on is gone or deserted by now.

If your server is dead, then you'll have a free transfer to a new server.

I'm kinda unclear on why these are called "Live Events", let alone why anyone thinks they're an epitome of much of anything.

Sure, the Hunter's Vale thing was fun (if badly balanced, the tree boss stopped most groups I tried it with cold, whilst the rest of the instance once you're past that was ludicrously easy), but it seemed way too short for the amount of work that went into it, was a lot less involved then holiday events in most MMOs, and the PvE nature of it feels odd in War, especially as you had to go to an RvR lake to access the instance.

Kinda begs the question, since you had to go to an Elfville RvR lake and they're disabling Elfville T1 RvR (yes, I know, the zone will still be there, for now, but I assume they felt they had a reason for sticking it in an oRvR zone in the first place), how are they going to handle this next year -- assuming there is a next year?

Anyway, beyond that the "live events" have consisted entirely of one scene being available in all tiers. Woo-hoo, be still my heart. There's titles for doing that particular SC that weekend, but then there's titles for everything and even though that SC will likely be the only one that pops that weekend, which gets old as the least popular SCs seem to be chosen for some reason, don't be expecting it to pop anywhere near as often as would be needed to get the title.

I dunno, when I heard "live event" I was expecting GMs running mobs or some such, not basically a short lived PvE mini-holiday followed by minor SC fiddling no one really seems to care about beyond the increased downtime and occasional bugginess.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say they're disabling the T1 elf pairing and then say the zone will still be there. They're just having all characters start in the Empire/Chaos pairing. As you said, those zones don't go away. You can still go there.

Besides the Wild Hunt thing was in all pairings. Not just T1.

T1 Elfville and GSvD oRvR lakes will no longer be RvR after the next patch drops. Between that and the fact that no one will start in either of those zones, not even ghosts will bother with those zones.

Presumably they felt there was a reason for putting the entrances to the Hunter's Vale instance in the RvR lakes instead of, say, one in each side's WC, though I was never really clear on what that reason might be. Next year the T1 Elfville RvR won't exist (Note: RvR, not zone), while they could just leave it there anyway -- it is an elf-specific demi-god, after all, so sticking it in CvE would be bizarre at best -- in general the game seems to pride itself on consistency between tiers.

Not that it's particularly important, to be honest, just musing. It would be foolish to think that the upcoming changes are anything but a beginning (of what, only Mythic or their masters can say) and I suspect that if the game still has a pulse in one year I doubt it'll look terribly much like it does today anyway.
