"With all of the buzz being generated about Final Fantasy XIV, it's easy to forget that Final Fantasy XI has been running strong for more than five years now, and the designers have taken the time to establish a solid rapport with the playerbase and the fans."

What a line of useless fluff. Anyone in the Final Fantasy XI community will tell you that the biggest problem with the game is that the above is the exact opposite of truth. We have about a thousand different problems with the game, things that need to be fixed, things that need to be buffed...and instead we get curry buns.

The curry bun incident was during one update, they added a curry bun food to the game, and players really saw it as a waste of time, just like the cheese sandwich added before. Both were requests during dev conferences, one can hope joking requests.

FFXI is still a pretty stable, polished game, but the developers in no way have a solid rapport with the fans, because there isn't even an official site, let alone two-way communication.

Dblade, don't forget that 18+hr boss fight... that really shows a disconnection between them and the fans...

No one wants to play a game for 18 hrs, fighting just one boss, and in the end be left puking your guts out from exhaustion AAAND knowing you still probably were no where even close to killing the boss...

What? Did I jump back in time to last year or something!?

The 18 hour boss fight was changed quite a while ago. Both are now down to 2 hour time limits. I'm also a bit confused as to what you mean by "no official site". Unless I've been going to an unofficial one all these years, they've had one since launch.... Perhaps you mean official forums? If that's the case, while they don't always do what's asked, they generally do read some of the premier site forums.

Sure, SE isn't exactly pushing the desired fixes and content out the door super fast, but they do have a lot of it planned which does show they at least listen to an extent. You also have to keep in mind the team left to run FFXI isn't as big as it used to be.

Don't generalize please :D. I'm sure plenty of people would love to change different raid groups in and out because the other was too exhausted to keep going, sounds epic and brings your guild(linkshell) more of that it was impossible but we did it feeling which most MMO's lack nowadays : /.

Although I agree 18 is a bit much haha

It's 2 hours, yeah, but last I played only Apathy was able to beat pandy warden. The amount of time it takes just to gather pop items disqualifies most guilds, if the difficulty of the actual fight didn't. Even at 2 hours not many people were duplicating it.

They have no official forum, and they don't really read them. It wasn't till under a year ago did SE even respond with their community team, and that was just collecting data. They also ignore one of the forums they really shouldn't, just because it isn't a partner-BG.

They somewhat listen, but come on. Beastmaster has had the losing claim issue on pet swap since day one of release, and its something which allows anyone to steal a claim we can solo to 1%, and SE hasn't done crap. They love to boost some jobs, but others haven't seen meaningful upgrades in years, and some have no real purpose in endgame raiding.

I don't want to seem to negative. I logged a rl year in the game, and I think FFXI is still one of the best ones out there. But their only real flaw is developer communication and feedback, and gameplay adjustment. It was like that before the B team took over, and I hope they learn from it to make FF 14 better.
