Short answer is no.

Given the past history with Jack, I looked the other way to try Champions out. He hasn't changed and still likes to do things his way. Nothing gets changed or done without his sign off.

an example* It took over a 300+ page post for them to even consider giving one free recon away, this is after they tweaked most of the powers and basically changed how they all worked from a game mechanic. Then after a week they finally said they would if the technology permitted it. Two weeks into the game they had a whole 9 page instruction manual that was pathetic. They still don't have all the power descriptions up do they?

But in the end HE never admitted any wrong doing or gave no apologies. Just like the past and just like now.

Bill Roper is executive produce on the Champions title. Jack is the CCO of Cyrptic which means he has to spend his time stretched between all of Cryptics titles. Jack can make a call and have something changes, but given his responsibilities you will find him much more focused on Star Trek online. Roper is the one who has final say on the game changes right now. Sure Jack could reverse those decisions but then at what point is it worth paying them for an Executive producer on a title which the CCO is personally overseeing?

I'll be honest and say, I really fucking hope so. Champions is so much fun, the problem is there's just not enough to do, if they hurry up and add tons of end game content and get more content out every few months for a little while I think they can save it. As of now it's gonna fail as bad as Hellgate...

For me personally Hellgate was a great success. I never bothered with any of the subscription nonsense, but the free to play portion was a great time for a couple months. I got about 20 times the value out of it as I did COD4 and many other big name titles.

The only thing I'm bitter about is that it brought down Mythos when they closed up shop.

I enjoyed Hellgate too, it just died really fast. I loved the world events... I hope someone grabs the US servers so we can play again.

I know this was posted close to two weeks ago so I would be interested in seeing his comments now.

Respec costs were drastically lowered and resource gained was increased to the beta levels.

Broken Abilities - I wish he would name some of them. Some powers may not be effective as others but few make a character unplayable.

Death Penalty - The reduction in damage if you are zero stars should not be enough to sway a battle. If the fights that hard run and make a charitable donation and restore your stars. Players can even run a few quick citizen missions or kill some monsters to restore the hero points.

I'm not trying to say that the review is incorrect. But allot of his complaints have been corrected. I would really like to see him review everything after the last 2 big patches.

Nope. They won't. They got Roper calling shots too, everyone already knows the obvious Failgate reference here. But I also tried loving CO, but it really feels like they just have really shitty developers, and NO idea of direction or what players ACTUALLY find enjoyable.

Keep living in your own little bubble Cryptic, and you won't have any people left to worry about.

I agree 100% with that article, and he didnt even mention the fact the game ran at 10fps for like 80% of the population for the first month, and they had NO IDEA WHY.

LOLZ. Later CO ;p

I will need someone to sit down and explain to me how being a CEO and losing your company relates to being a game designer. Hellgate is still going strong in Asia. Flagship went under because they failed to get enough investors to repay the bank loans. It happens to businesses everyday. This doesn't mean Bill Roper was a bad CEO but for sake of this post lets say it does. So Bill Roper CEO sucks. What does that have to do with Bill Roper Producer?

Everytime I see a Hellgate London post regarding Roper I really get a good laugh. Because its at that moment that I realize the person is really lazy, since they can't seem to take the time to voice a factual concern.

After being on both sides of the coin in the MMO universe I can say that honestly 97% of the consumers just don't have a clue. They want to believe that every little thing revolves around them and their point of view is shared by the majority.

Take your claim that 80% of the users have horrible FPS problems. You had FPS issues that they couldn't fix for you so you make the assumption that everyone has these problems. I have only met in my game time 2 people with severe FPS issues. One was playing on a underspecification laptop. The other a normal computer. The laptop will never get better but the other guy seen a vast improvement by installing the retail version of the game instead of playing off of the Beta client.

On that point some gamers these days really make me shake my head. In the old days being a PC gamer meant you had to learn. You had to learn how the PC worked, how the operating system worked. When you had a problem you tried to fix. Now a days people complain when they have to update drivers by clicking 2 buttons. But thats besides the point.

Summary for those who don't like walls of text. CEO and Executive Produces have different jobs.

Hmm... I see that while there are many powers to choose from within Champions, the number one super power of the Massively readers is flawless premonition.

Guess I'd better stop having fun and find me a Murlock to kill.

The game was superb in Head Start, unlike people who say it needed difficulty raised the fact is the market is out there for a non hardcore fun casual MMO. CO was going to be my "Play for fun MMO" while Aion was to be my primary.

But I was so impressed and had such fun durring Open Beta and Head Start I was almost considering dumping Aion as my primary and just playing CO.

Launch day ended that, as did horrid PR. If this game dies it is not because of anything but the people that changed this entire game at the last minute.

Anyone who plays now and thinks everyone that says it was great before launch and sucks now is crazy has no idea how much better the game used to be.

Fact remains some MMO out there, that is AAA can get a large paying subscriber base if they make a non hardcore casual MMO that is just alot of fun.

Cryptic could have had a suprise hit on their hands, on the day of launch they decided to give the suprise hit to Aion and thats all she wrote because to many other games are coming out between now and middle of next year for enough people to subscribe to turn CO around.

For better or for worse, Champions Online is it for me. I like MMOGs, but do not care for fantasy at all. That leaves me with:

1. Anarchy Online - It's an eight year-old game, by Funcom. 'Nuff said.

2. City of Heroes - Not a bad game, but I've been playing it for over four years now, and it's showing its age.

3. EVE Online - The game is mostly PvP, and I hate PvP. No, let me rephrase that. I abhor PvP.

4. Star Wars Galaxies - Bwahahaha. Bwahahahahaha.

So, I'm sticking with Champions Online, through thick and thin.

Exactly. Not all of us are revolving MMO players hopping onto every flavor of the month game, always looking for that 'something' that chances are your first MMO provided and each subsequent one didn't.

I'm playing Champions because it lets me fly over buildings, launch a trick arrow into a zombies noggin', and hurl stagecoaches into piles of robotic cowboys. SW:TOR, for example, despite being the new savior to the industry isn't likely to let me do those things.

Actually, they HAD the best game during the Head Start ! It was fun! It was fast! You actually FELT super !

Then, Cryptic nerfed the life out of it.

Instead of adding more content, and maybe making the new content more intellligently difficult, they just nerfed the crap out of powers and buffed the mobs to the max. Not to mention evicerating the rate of experience gain.

Welcome to "Mystery Men Online".

Parts of the game were broken during head start. Players were relying on broken defensive powers that made you nearly impossible to kill. Then they started crying when the problem got fixed. Without this crutch they had to actually learn how to play.

They do, however, need to add more content since they decided to lower the xp gain. I have come across several level ranges where quests are few and far between.

Thanks. That was a very interesting read. I myself don't play it so wasn't sure how the game was going. Tried it in OB and simply couldn't find the fun in the game, so most of the stuff he talked about don't affect me but it was a good read.

I haven't played the retail version, but the game was horribly, brokenly easy in CB and Head Start. You either picked the defensive powers and turned the game into a joke, or you didn't and turned the game into an exercise in frustration. Either way, the game was not fun. There's a difference between "Casual" and a game with instant "I WIN!" buttons.

Yes, Cryptic definitely dug CO's grave. Poor launches are often a death-knell, as are slow reactions to them. While CO being "the only game in town" for people who don't want to play fantasy games may be enough for players to keep playing now, there are far too many options coming along that will pull too many people from this game if they continue their snail's pace in fixing issues and adding content.

Not sure what you mean by snails pace. I have never seen a developer address issues as quickly as I have seen during CO's release.

Its no excuse for the release state, but since then we have seen some very quick responses to the game's biggest issues.

I'm referring to the retcon and difficulty imbalances at launch which went a week and by some accounts still require tweeking. Most games give respecs with the patches when they make sweeping changes to core skill mechanics.

What issues are you referring to as being resolved quickly?

After many years of playing too many different MMO's I find the near hysteria from some over things in Champions Online to be very amusing. MMO's don't release in perfect condition and for the most part the Champions release has been smooth and the patches fairly regular so they are obviously working on the right things. The CO release is nothing like what some other games have seen. Endless queue's, a server thats never up, a truly broken game, etc. I'm tired of seeing the doom and gloom from people every time things don't go exactly the way they want it to. I'm not saying its right that MMO's always come out the way they do, but its not the end of the world and nothing has happened to Champions up to this point that it should be treated like the end is coming.

I think the release of Aion right after Champions Online had a bigger affect on things than anything else. I definately noticed a population decrease on the server and in my guild right after that date.

If Champions can get a lot of extra content in fairly quickly then I think the rest will be fine. At the end of the day its a fun game with limited content which means you have to start new characters over and over. Im not one of those people that loves making endless alts, but the lack of content if nearly forcing people down that road when they get bored after hitting level 40. This by itself is going to make people leave more than anything.
