So we've talked about BattleSwarm: Field of Honor in the past, but here's a little refresher for everyone. It's a game that features two sides, bugs and humans, and plays like a RTS (Bugs) or FPS (Humans) depending on what side you take. It's like Starship Troopers, only a video game... and not the Starship Troopers video game...
Anyway, this Sunday, October 2nd, is a huge tournament for the game, and it's featuring real prizes! Starting at 10 AM Pacific (1 PM Eastern), all accounts are going to be wiped (as this game is still in beta) and all set to the same place, except for chips/genes (modification items) for all players. Then, at Noon Pacific (3 PM Eastern) the tournament will begin and run until 9 PM Pacific (Midnight Eastern.)
Signing up for the tournament is as easy as signing up and downloading the game, getting yourself an account, and playing when the server comes up on Sunday. Prizes include up to 10,000 MetaTix (which is effectively 100 dollars) for a wide range of categories that go above and beyond just winning matches. In-game gold will be offered as well, so you can pad your wallet with both cash shop purchases and vendor purchases.
MetaTix also work with Reality Gap's sister game, Monato Esprit, so don't feel like you have to spend your prizes all in BattleSwarm.

I played it over a couple of nights and have to report its pretty lame. The FPS part's controls are quite bad. The game is horribly balanced. You can't change the key mapping and its just not very good either side.

Awww... that sucks... I was kinda hoping this would be something like Natural Selection, only with more RTS. :(

We (at Reality Gap) had some responses to some of the comments - but the biggest one is that if you go to Battleswarm.net you will notice the "NOW IN BETA" text in bright neon yellow in the upper right hand corner. We are in Beta...that means the game is not officially released or "finished" yet...that means we are actively listening to feedback and including it in the game...that means the game isn't done yet.
1.) Balance:
The game is pretty balanced...we have made a lot of changes and a lot of people agree that it is pretty good at this point and we will continue to make tweaks. We have been closely monitoring gameplay data and are satisfied that this is the case. Once again: BETA. Some of the balance complaints are akin to picking up Counter Strike for the first time, getting slaughtered and then giving up. It's a multiplayer online fighting game...if you play against good people then yeah, you are going to get your butt handed to you which is why there are channels specifically for beginners to play in.
2.) "But it's not an MMORPG"
It is a multiplayer medium-session online battle game. It is MMO-esque but not fully MMO would be an accurate statement. There IS a leveling component - as you play you go up in levels and can use more powerful weapons and armor. You can upgrade and customize your soldier and Bug to your specifications with various items. Nowhere in the post above is it stated that Battleswarm is an MMORPG...except at the bottom where it has been tagged with MMORTS / MMOFPS (which aren't tags that we applied). It is the diet coke of MMO's...just one calorie.
4.) Advertising Deal
There is not an advertising deal between Battleswarm and Massively...they were just posting news like they do for everyone else's games no surprises there.
5.) Controls:
There are a few guides available and write ups for game controls. There really isn’t much to the control scheme not sure why people are having problems with it. As the Bugs you basically only need the mouse, camera controls and function keys. The FPS controls are pretty standard ASDW + space bar controls.
Anyways, aside from that I guess thats it.

My heart skipped a beat and the first thing that went through my head when I saw that screen shot was, "OMG Gundam MMO?!". But it was not, and now I am sad.
Hush. We all have our weaknesses. ;)

I actually enjoyed this game but only played the FPS (human) side. I had a great deal of fun battling wave after wave of player-sent insects of all sorts and the maps were designed well enough where you could tell what your teammates were up to and fill in the gaps pretty quick.
My only concern was that it seems as though the Insect players get increasingly powerful mobs to throw at you but you never seem to get anything that can battle them. In other words when I played against a low level Insect player the battles were very even but if two high-level Insect players were fighting six mid-level humans there was no contest. The maps were over in seconds. Map after map after map. I uninstalled after about a week of that.

THIS IS NOT AN MMO! its a 2D lobby/room system. afaik there's not even any char progression (the other thing most people associate with MMOs). but its DEFINITELY NOT AN MMO.
just warning the people like me who get angry they wasted their time jumping thru hoops to try out an MMO thats not an rpg, just to find out its NOT at all an MMO

True. It's Massive the same way Counter Strike is massive. There's a lot of people playing it at once but they're not together.
Biggest map I saw was six humans versus 2 insects.
I did see some sort of progression (some player were level 2 or 3 when I was playing) but it was not very clearly described.

This isn't even remotely similar to an MMO. It's basically the same exact formula as other Korean F2P shooters like Combat Arms, WarRock, etc. I'm guessing they have some advertising deal.
