That was very well said, Kyoji. I think a lot of us forget some of those things sometimes.

As far as selling crap goes, the best implementations I have seen were in SWG. I loved the shops the way they had them and the vendors that you could buy things from anytime, even if the owner was off line.

The interaction of going into the shop, "talking" with the crafter about what you needed and them making a special order for you really made me feel like it was a living world. Would love to see someone replicate that feeling in one of these games again. : /

Private stores are both different from and complimentary to Auction Houses, in the same way that Brokerages are to AHs.

I'd like all three in my MMOs please.

I don't personally see an issue with blanket removing the player stalls, yeah that only leaves auction houses in major cities ........ which odds are your going to end up going to to do much of anything vending wise anyhow, even if it was going to be nothing more than setting up a private store.

Heck WoW had auction houses exclusively in major cities, at least back when I played and you know what that worked out just fine. When I wanted to see if someone was selling something I might be interested in say between quests .... I went to a major city ..... thats why they are major cities and not scary stalls scattered around in the far hinterland.

I personally loved the bazaar in EQ1. Yeah, sure, there were a few setbacks, the biggest being even with the most powerful system on Earth, your computer will grind to a halt as the dated engine tried to render an insane amount of players in that small area.

Of course, that was years ago.

But the idea of strolling by and checking out each vendor's wares is quite like a real life bazaar, and feels different from just going to the broker/AH and searching for the item you need. Because then, you miss out on items that you might want but not necessarily need. And the feminine part of me, as small as it may be, screams for retail therapy.

I personally am Asian, and hate how private shops mar the otherwise grand city, changing it to just a grand wall of text. It also kills those with lower-end systems, no doubt. But I also see the merits as stated, for convenience amongst others.

Great ideas are abound, lets see if the devs who have been rather on the ball so far find a reasonable compromise.

For the record, Private Stores is a terrible concept. Lag, lag, lag. People who insist on setting up their private stores near quest NPCs, causing all sorts of mischief. What about the 30 people who all set up shop in a major artery of the city, polluting the very scene with bubbles and unnecessary lag.

There should be designated ONLY areas for this kind of mess.
