Lani Blazier, associate producer on NCsoft's Aion, has announced today via Twitter that the game will be opening its arms to a new North American server very shortly.
This announcement most likely comes to many cheers from the community, as server queues have continued all this week on many of the NA servers. While we announced earlier that private shop changes will be coming to the game in order to reduce AFK spot holders, the new server will be one of the best ways to help spread out the population.
The new server is currently unnamed and the time frame is still not set in stone, but Lani has assured everyone that the server will be available sometime this weekend. This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
A new European server will follow as well, but as of this posting, the time frame for that server is still up in the air.
Update: Fregion [West] has been added to the server list and is now taking players. An East Coast American server and the new European server are also on their way.

New server is good...ability to transfer to the new server would be even better.

No, that would be a horrible idea. Even adding a new server is like playing Russian roulette.

I don't know about Warhammer never followed that one, but Funcom opened a lot more then 1 server per region. If you can't tell NCsoft is restraining themselves from that mistake.
Then again you don't need any reason to whine against Aion do you? Why do you even bother reading these about a game you so clearly don't like? Does Massively have a post count I don't know about? XD

No news from Aion regarding repairs to their problems with lag spikes that make the game unplayable for a minority of rapidly quitting players. Nor is Aion staff posting on their own forums (they claim bugs prevent them from posting, although they clearly have the ability to delete posts).
Insofar as an external observer can tell, it took all of Aion's staff this entire week just to stand up those new servers, which came online Friday afternoon. Oh yes, judging from their twitter feeds, they did stand up various servers that crashed at odd times during the week.
Compared to NCsoft's previous flawless and efficient execution of Lineage II, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Autoassault and Tabula Rasa launches, the problems Aion has makes me wonder. Has the Korean home office fired the "A team" in Austin and turned over their Great Flying Hope For The Future to the "B team" on the west coast. Darn, I hate it when corporate politics prevent me from playing what looks like a really great game.

The game has an AH, there is no real reason to have Private Shops anyway. All they do is litter the landscape and make things harder to find, and make cities all cluttered up with people who aren't there. I don't understand why the option is there when they have the same thing as an Auction House that keeps everything neat.
The AFK shop people are pretty ridiculous too. I've seen the same shop afk in the same spot for 12 hours straight as I logged in off and on through the day. The people just go to work or sleep and leave their character logged on in shop mode. You go to check their shop to see if there's something you want to buy, and there's some simple item for sale for many millions of K - just a person saving their character online and screwing over other people who would be playing by giving a queue for a full server when they aren't even actually playing...
But they say they're fixing it, maybe it's fixed already, I haven't logged in for a few days now.
Another thing I don't understand, the game has a Channel system built in already, why don't they just scale up the channels and put more server power to handle those channels instead of new servers? That way in the future they won't have to do server merges, they can just drop the number of channels back down.
