The latest trailer for Final Fantasy XIV is both lengthy and a blend of in-game and CG footage. Honestly, we're not even sure why Square Enix is bothering with any of the CG, because we'd be fine with everything being rendered in-engine. Still, it all looks beautiful and wonderfully imaginative in a way that you'd expect from a Final Fantasy game.
So, what information can we glean from the trailer? Well, there's probably going to be a card game to play and, uh, you'll be fighting monsters you're probably familiar with, but in a nice nostalgic way.
Beyond that, the video has some intermittent text -- as many Japanese RPG trailers are want to do -- and more of that big ship battle to soak in. Oh yeah and cat girls, there's always cat girls . See the video after the break.

Lately? Final Fantasy has always been that way. Granted I have never played XI or XII (One day soon. To both of them.), but Final Fantasy has always had varying yet healthy levels of cutesy and comic relief.

you say you follow FF14 "closely" and don't even know what guild leves are? Wow....

I'll forgive the "card game" thing on Joystiq, but not here on a site that covers only MMOs. The cards shown in the trailer were part of the Guildleve quest system in FFXIV. If you've read anything (keep in mind while not much has been released there has been a large focus on guild leve info) you'd know that. Hopefully the writers can be more aware of the topics they write on in the future instead of making uninformed statements that any follower knows is incorrect.

Man, that mithra/miqote kneeling on the grass was my exact character model in FFXI, blonde with the two forelocks. A lot of the models in that video were exactly the same in terms of hairstyle and facial features.

Who the heck uses the word "bade". Honestly, I think that is the first time I've ever seen that word used, ever.
Cool trailer though, I can't wait to see more of this game.
