Look at the figures. 600,000 users spending over a billion dollars. That's more than the GDP of Rwanda or Mozambique, countries with far more people than Second Life. As I've said on my blog - anyone who thinks government won't soon take notice of such a moneymaking tool is painfully naive.

The USA IRS already has. Their recommendation to congress is that existing the existing tax code already covers all of this and that no additional measures are required other than an information program to inform people better about their tax obligations.

Those stats sound strangely like an epitaph.

Oh pfft, sincerely! The death of Second Life gets regularly predicted every week or so. Yet it still grows, and grows, and grows. Some day, all Internet users will be connected to a SL-compatible environment, and people will *still* continue to faithfully predict its end...

You know, that slowly gets annoying. Admit it: you might never use SL in your life, but it won't get away.

Tats, thanks so much for publishing the statistics. They're precious!

The land area stat is interesting but I wonder about its relevance as you can build in the air in Second Life ...

You must own the land under the air your building in, in order to build there
