Because it makes the game look more exciting. To be fair, tons and tons of companies use this same marketing tactic. And it usually works.

Why is that any different than Blizzard putting out a highly produced trailer for one of their expansions? Blizzard is cheered when they do it and show no in game footage but you have a problem with NCSoft putting in some footage...seems like you just needed a reason to complain.

"There's pretty daevas, pretty battles, pretty environments, pretty monsters, and even pretty particle effects. Like we said -- pretty."

Colin you're my favorite Massively writer, love your cheeky not so serious way of writing. ^_^

Like the cinematics, but I'm not a fan of the "A hero will rise" thing, sure it probably points to Aion's hero system where one player can become ultra powerful for a time. But to me it sounds too much like a single player story? Which of course it isn't...Maybe I'm being crazy??! Would have preferred a line that points to team play better. :)

the story is a lot like aoc with you being the "one to save us all", etc...
though the game thankfully isn''t the marketting lie AoC was :P

that said... trailer is "meh", i expect either a story, details, hints about upcoming events or some such in a trailer... this is the kind of teaser ye release a year before :S

The "A hero will rise" is part of the "Me" marketing stratagy that has been popular in advertizing. Catchphrases like "Your worth it" for makeup and "Your richer than you think" for banks.

All in all I roll my eyes at the special destiny crap that every single player in Aion is told they have Yes you have a special destiny the same as everyone else. Therefore not special at all.

That was one thing that I liked about WAR you are a lot less "Teh Hero man" and a lot more Holgar the Grunt who fights it out with all the other grunts.

Is there a free trial for Aion? I want to play this game, but with an MMO you can never be sure whether it'll be worth the money... since I tried Warhammer I've been a little wary around fresh-releases like this.

Trailers can and often do get you pumped.

I remember watching the AO intro thinking "that's awesome!" then I played the game ;)

Aion is about the same for me, great movies but the actual play time I had was mechanical, no "nice!" moments.
