The level of paranoia astounds me here. Don't fret over the servers, they aren't looking to separate players. You're not going to be stuck or be forced to pay to switch servers. That would be utterly ridiculous for ArenaNet to do.

As far as the Heroes/Henchmen being the best part of GW. No, it was the single biggest mechanic that further separated the community and pushed GW further into being a single player RPG. It also caused a great deal of unbalance in the gameplay.

Primary goal for GW2 is to fix the problems that GW had, which are;

1. Instanced world - segregated the MMO community
2. No PVP world - This caused a rift between the PVE and PVE arena play. It was like there is two different games within GW.
3. x-axis - A lack of jumping/falling made the game feel like it was on rails.
4. Level 20 cap - a lot players felt the game was limited by level cap, although most didn't realize why such a low level cap was implemented, regardless of it's good reasons these players saw it as a bad thing.
