I am going to lay bets that the people actually defending GameGuard are actually NCSoft employees.

If this helps anyone, google "Fyyre" and get her hack for disabling game-guard in Aion, It's very useful!

GameGuard does nothing to stop people hacking the game since its so easy to circumvent, all it does is destroy the average players experience.

The only advantage that GG has to developers is that it is dirt cheep and requires little/no internal effort to adapt to the game. The problem is, it is SO easy to bypass that it doesn't work for it's intended purpose; speed hacks, instant cast hacks, invincibility hacks, ect. already run rampant in CAion. GG is a "check in the box" defense system-- it is not the type of program that a company can use and still expect to be "second in the market behind WoW"

With everything else the developers have to do to ensure a seamless launch, it wouldn't suprise me if the devs are holding off on removing GG until they have the resources to do so, gambling that the number of players that will be actively driven away by their choice are few... Then again, asian MMO companies are NOTORIOUS for throwing extra coats of shine over the holes that they find in the game instead of fixing the hole. We'll see... Personally, I see GG to be a MAJOR drawback, and yes I DO have the game up and running seamlessly.

In terms of the other changes with the patch it will be interesting to see what the patch note, dev response time will be toward known combat issues. As someone who has submitted quite a few of those bug reports, I'll be checking it out the second that I log on. I enjoy the game, but have no financial attachment to it (there were free ways to get into Closed Beta), so this patch will be the deciding factor for me.

The freeze-up bugs that made Aion unplayable for me and my partner throughout OB were finally cleared up in today's patch. I'm not sure if they finally activated the dx9 part of the cryengine or fixed the server lag, or both, but it finally worked with great frame rates at max graphics.

Of course, with only a handful of hours left before our characters go poof there was no real point or enjoyment in actually playing the game. We'd already identified that this is a class "grind your way to the top" style Asian MMO. There's fun in that, but we'll wait for formal launch to enjoy it. Besides, there's always the risk they'll try "one more improvement" now and launch that breaks everything again.

Game has been running flawlessly for me since the start of OB, with a some lag issues Tuesday night.

I don't like GG, I think it sucks and is probably the worst solution to the problem, but at the same time I have had absolutely no problems with it. People have mentioned Chrome and the Logitech control center as being affected, both of these work fine for me with GG and Aion up and running while alt-tabbed out of the game, so I'm not sure what the deal is there.

It's entirely possible that it's been fixed (Gameguard) with regards to Chrome, et al. During one of the Closed Beta weekends, however, it wasn't. Also, I don't alt-tab out of games. I run two 1680x1050 displays with a game on the right in windowed mode and everything else on the left.

This is how I play every game and I really ought not to have to jump through hoops for just one game that in the end isn't nearly the second-coming it's being made out to be.

One thing to keep in mind is GG is especially nazi about things when running in windowed mode. I also run two screen but run fullscreen for that very reason :)
Learned that trick back when I used to play PSU.

Good lord... the game runs great but has GG so I won't play? Yanno what? Good one less whiner I'll have to deal with when it goes live.

I hear all these complaints and bashing... always comparing to Wow... the Holy Grail. Your holy grail has become vanilla and boring. Content is snailed out the door and supposedly always top notch. So That's why they still patch it so many times after a large patch or game content. EQ at least had everything it was supposed to have in the ex-pac when it shipped. U wana hop into the biggest baddest dungeon w/o gearing up? GL... in wow they are still working on it. Aion saw a major problem got on it and did their best to fix it and it seemed to work.

"Korean" graphics? So does that mean your complaints are "emo" or "ghey?" If they hadn't added the newer styles into the game I would say it has a very anime like style to it, sure. However, I thought anime was pretty popular here as it is overseas. You sound like a friend of mine... "Hate all the extra huge armor... what are they compensating for something? Can't stand that Jap crap." They I get invited over and we watch Lodoss Wars... I could slap him.

My last little nugget is... I was amazed at the ammount of negativity from some. Always bashing, always hating, but still playing the beta for every second they could squeeze out of it. Is it the wow killer?..... no... It is a fresh game with some interesting ideas and ways for the player to customize themselves so you don't look like a clone of everyone else with their "best in slot gear."
