Would love to check it out only I keep getting errors when I try to register/download.

Some seriously shoddy scripting on the reg form - a 5 year old could do better :(

I really like what I see...with the High Resolution texture download the game is absolutely beautiful. It isn't exactly open world playing...its more like Guild Wars in that you have a town that's all live and then go into instances but its fun. I will continue to check it out. The rules are a little deep and learning what things are and what I'm doing will take patience. I never played the game itself so these 2d things on the all weapons mean very little to me.

I liked DDO when I tried it almost four years ago, but I didn't think it was worth $15 a month. Now that the game is free it's practically a steal. It helps that Turbine has ironed out a lot of kinks in the game.

The one problem that people will face is that as you level up, you will probably be forced to buy new content. Many of the best leveling areas/quest chains are content you can only buy in the DDO store.

I was a long time player (over a year) who wound up quitting because I got tired of always trying to find groups. I've played a bit of it since it became free, and still nice, but still the same problem. They've gone the same route as Wizard 101 has, which is nice. The free portion of the game basically acts like a large, endless demo. You can play all you want, within a fairly small area of the game. Still plenty to play for hours or months to explore it all and get a good feel for the game. Then you have the option of buying access to certain areas or you can subscribe and get access to all those areas as part of your fee (so long as you stay subscribed).

Horrible slow clunky combat and a crappy game engine. Its the same as it was when it had a monthly fee. I will not be playing this at all unfortunately. Turbine has good ideas but apparently they can't make them work.

Not a flame or anything, just curious what you mean by slow, clunky combat? I ask because I read other places that it's very twitch based and fast. Can you or someone else please provide a little more detail, because I'm thinking of giving it a shot. Thanks.

I downloaded the client the other day and played DDO most of the night last night. I'm pretty pleased my experience so far. It is kind of nice to be able to solo dungeons when I feel like being alone, but then to be able to group up with others if the mood takes me.

The combat system is actually kind of refreshing. Most of the MMOs I frequent have combat systems similar to WoW, whereas DDO's is more like Oblivion or what I thought Darkfall's would be like (I won't even get started on that game...). It's much more dynamic, which of course stems from the depth that the pen-and-paper version has created over the years. It feels a lot less "grindy" than WoW does.

Also, the puzzles are a nice touch, and help make dungeons much more interesting.

My one gripe is that it seems Turbine has used a lot of the same audio in DDO as they have LotRO. In the scheme of things, though, that's not so bad.

I am enjoying it a great deal. I actually got my Wife to start playing. Now that is a sign of quality!

I was only in the main town for a few minutes last night after leaving the starter dungeon, but while I was there I saw a lot of chatter from people who were impressed with the graphics and game play. Turbine may be on to something here.

I downloaded it last night but can't play it until this weekend because I promised my wife we'd start it together. I can't wait, though!

Yup I am checking it out. I was in the beta and got a head start...which I didn't use, heh. (Life ya know?) Anyway Turbine gave me 500 points for the store and I plan on adding a few to that this weekend to unlock either monk or favored soul.

If I enjoy a game, it does not bother me to support it monetarily. Having a choice of sub or just pay as you play for various things is kind of cool.

I did give it a try but it just didn't seem that fun to me. Worked through the starter island and a few dungeons after that, which, admittedly, is not that far into the game. Most other games I've played -- WoW, LotRO, and GW mainly -- are fun right from the get-go. DDO wasn't. I kept hoping DDO would get better, but it didn't.

DDO is a great idea for an online game, and I think it it well suited to the F2P structure. Moreover, I think Turbine has done a nice job with the way the in-game store is handled and with the balance between what is free and what can be purchased. I like all the instancing, as well, and the dungeon designs and the story structure for each dungeon.

To the extent that this game resembles Guild Wars, it's great. But the graphics (on my setup anyway) didn't hold a candle to Guild Wars or even come close to the graphics of Turbine's LotRO, and I found the combat and UI to be awkward. I also felt like the stat system seemed overly complicated and nonintuitive compared to other games.

I really hope DDO:U is a great success, as it is exceptionally well implemented for a F2P. The game itself just has little to no appeal to me in its current state.

Would love to but I have too many hobbies and too little time. I barely have time for one MMO as it is and I now have to split my time between LOTRO and Aion!!!!

I played DDO way back when and while I'm sure it's changed significantly, I doubt it's superior to Aion.

I like the revamp of DDO, however having played for around 3 months back when it was launched I have some existing Warforged characters that cannot be used again unless I shell out more money to access WF in game. I wouldn't mind paying the fee if I wanted to create another WF character, but it's pretty bogus that I can't play the one that already existed.

According to the release notes, if you already have a Warforged or Monk character that you had previously created while a subscriber and then fall back to the free option, once you pay to unlock that race or class then those previously created characters will be available to use in either of the two free character slots you are given. Also, if you already had more than two characters on your account, they are still there, waiting for you to purchase an extra character slot to make room for them.

I really want to, but I have an existing Turbine account from when I used to play LotRO and the registration process won't let me add DDOU to it. I've been told that I can call their customer services number long distance and they'll provide one over the phone, but that's a pain in the ass.

You can also file a support ticket through the website. I don't have the URL on hand, but if you check the forums a bit, it's not hard to find.

It's great to be back in Stormreach again, and this time with my kids! Was a subscriber for about a year, but couldn't swing 3 accounts @ $15/month.
Always hoped the price would drop, but F2P is even better! Thanks Turbine!

Doesn't look like what i'm looking for. F2P? Yes, but not unlimited. You can raise you character to level 4, if you pay you can level till 20. The graphics are not very good in my opinion, they look like Perfect World's. This is not a real F2P game, i would call it partially F2P, cause sooner or later, if you want to progress and get access to new content, you'll have to pay. Combat is dynamic, true, but is quite vague aswell.

I'm still looking for a F2P game that gets close to monthly fee ones quality.
