One of the things the Champions Online community has been requesting feverishly is the use of a free respec to change their powers. Many recent changes to the monsters and power abilities in the game have left some characters unable to cope with combat. Today's patch was supposed to add in that free respec option, however something has gone wrong with the patch and the free power retcon was left out.
...Or was it?
Cryptic Daeke has just revealed via twitter that it's not impossible to get your character a free respec today! Visit the powerhouse, open up your retcon screen and type in "/character_usefreerespec" into the chat window, without quotes. A system message should appear and your retcon list will be wiped clean, allowing you to completely revitalize your character from the ground up. Enjoy your new power selection!

It is worth mentioning, that there is a bug that locks the powers chosen after the retcon.
To work around it, retcon, exit powerhouse without selecting anything and then enter back then you can select powers and retcon them for free (until you exit powerhouse) as normal.

I love that to be informed in Champions reading the forum isn't the way, reading the patcher isn't the way. Twitter is the way to find out whats going on.

I'll be damned if I ever resort to twittering.
I'll just deal with not knowing exactly what's going on, thanks. I'd sooner bathe in a vat full of powdered kosher salt, vinegar, fiberglass and sharp pieces of scrap metal than spend one blessed second of my life in that unholy place where the english language is skinned alive, drawn and quartered, gutted and impaled with a dull, un-greased wooden spike through the ass

With Twitter I can filter out the noise and just read what Daeke has to say. I still read the boards, but if all I want are my answers Twitter is pretty efficient.

At least they listened to the players. Runes of Magic did the same thing, after encouraging people to spend money in the items shop based on the OB characters that would be persisted then did a 180 on patch release day BUT didn't offer a way to at least reset your secondary character selection. Hell I would have done it at a cost versus having a combo that was dead in the water. I've been waiting for the expansion to play again. If I'm going to re-roll I'd like to see what the new classes have to offer first.

just wondering what class combo you have that's so useless? ppl say that about my warrior/cleric but i made this character as a gatherer,,able to go solo almost anywhere i need him to go to farm wood/herb/ore, nice to have a toon that handles this easily.

it's not so much the class/combo issue as it is that when you have a system where you can fine tune your stats and multiclass powers, it makes a diff when things like the difficulty of enemies change. Also I think I like other ppl have learned some of the ricks to giving yourself the right stats for the job.
It's a bit more intricate than "I use magic so i get INT." I redid my guy and I am a lot more powerful than i used to be.

For some of us there's a bit more wrong with the patch than a few hoops that need to be jumped through to activate the free respec. These latest changes have introduced video instabilities for some that are lowering already flakey framerates, causing crashes, and in some cases simply preventing the game from loading at all.
Don't get me wrong, Cryptic have been very service oriented in working to correct problems and compensate players for their patience. I totally appreciate the respec, but I'd gladly trade it away to be able to play my game again.

Unable to cope? Lol. More like awful players who cry on the forums that their characters should not take damage from melee weapons and bullets because it doesn't match with their characters back story.

I am not impressed at all that it took em this long to give the repsec. I wish there was a company out there who could actually compete with Blizzard as far as quality of game play and customer service goes. My only hope right now is that the new Star Wars MMO will be as epic as it seems.
The only thing Champions has going for it is an awesome character creator. Other then that is one giant grind fest with no satisfying end game content. I would estimate the avg person can play this MMO 1-3 months before they are bored as hell and trying a new mmo. Life Time Subcriptions lmao.

when does the grind start? I'm lvl 21 and haven't hit that grind yet. Anytime I've found myself in an area that was too hard I went somewhere else. Theres plenty of mission. There a lot of humor if you bother to read. There is exploration.
As for how long it took them? Thank you cryptic for telling us you were going to do something that you did not have to do and taking your time doing it so that you did not blow anything up. I went back and forth between playing with the character I was going to change and another character while I waited.

LOL@ more whiney players who's first intro to MMO's was WoW. Welcome to MMO's. WoW had a TERRIBLE launch, and launched with no endgame content. My guild's chosen server at launch wasn't actually playable for the first 3-4 days of release
Champions has been a joy to play. Sorry cryptic fixed the game so you actually had to use a little skill to kill multiple mobs. The people that have so much to complain about are just looking for a reason to go back to the WoW grindfest(thats what mmo's are BTW).
