Yay!!!

THis game just gets better and better. I am SO happy to read about this! Did I hope for a bigger xpac? Of course! But the game is so beautifully done and the quality is unmatched over any game I have played so far.

Of course I realize it is not the genre for everyone, but honestly, I truly love logging in and hearing that gorgeous music and seeing the beautiful sights. Just merely wandering around feels like a holiday in another world.

Yeah, yeah, I know everyone compares it to WoW - the other big guy on the block. But really, WoW is WoW and this is not. And that is fine!!
(Besides, I always ask myself, for a company (Blizzard) that makes approx $150,000,000 per MONTH off just that one title alone...why cannot their product be BETTER????? More original?? More..something??? And besides, LotRO is $10 a month and as far as I can recall, WoW is $15. (I unsubbed about 3 months after I bought LotRO so not sure if they changed that or not).

Lotro is the best, and a cool expansion just makes it better. Still waiting for word on a Legendary Dwarf Minstrel Axe though.

I have to wonder if they will be adding anything to the player house system?

"Gear wipe should be expected when the level cap is raised. There is no way past that."

Of course there is a way past that, there are many ways..if devs, you know, think outside the box!

Gear is one thing, but legendary items are a whole different beast that needs to be treated differently. Something you bust down every time something new and shiny shows up is hardly legendary and cheapens the whol experience, imo.

Has there been any sign of a UI revamp? For me, the shoddy UI is the biggest single point I hold against LotRO, a game I've purchased and tried to love ... but the interface with it's funnily fuzzy fonts that just don't scale well with different resolutions is sadly game-breaking for me :-(

The developers should keep in mind that while quests & zones come and go, the interface stays with you throughout your entire game. Now, if Turbine managed to put in a scaling, crisp font ... this game would last me a long time.

FYI, I'm using a 1280 x 1024 resolution (decent graphics card, good monitor, machine runs Age of Conan without a hitch, so that's not the problem).

*Adds prayer to the Valar that this is seen by the right people*

I'm not sure what you mean fuzzy fonts? Many UI windows and elements already have sliders to scale it smaller or larger. You can increase text font size in the chat options window. You can also download different skins for the UI from www.lotrointerface.com. I think the default UI skin is boring so I change to new ones from time to time. I don't play at such a large resolution so I can't comment on the font detail but it looks crisp and clean at 1920x1200. Hope this helps a bit.

By "fuzzy" I mean that the fonts lose their "crispness" when I scale them to a larger size. I've tried this in multiple resolutions and when I scale the fonts up, they inevitably seem to turn out a bit blurry, which makes them a bit hard to read at times.

So to me it seems I'm stuck with either small and clear fonts or larger scale, blurry fonts.

Lotrointerface.com is a good site, I've been toying with some of the setups there ... still, more UI customization in the way "that other big MMO has" would be a vast plus.

You can put lipstick on a big but it will still be ugly.

"What we found particularly cool was that each player can bring their own fully customizable soldier into a Skirmish. You can choose their role, which are fairly obvious analogs to classes and select their appearance just as if you were making a new character for yourself. They even have skills and ranks that you can improve as you use them in battle. Jeffrey was keen to point out that you don't have control of your soldier in battle, because Turbine felt it was just too much stuff to be doing at once. Instead, each battle you equip them with traits based on how you want them to act. We think it's a good decision, especially for the pet class players."

This is the most retarded feature that I have ever heard in an MMO. basically you are putting together a play to watch for your amusement. WTF, you can't control the character and just watch. Turbine is just being lazy and throwing this together quickly.

What is so hard to understand? You can take one NPC soldier in an epic instance encounter. So if you have a group of 6 people, you have 6 NPC soldiers also and possibly some heralds or pets depending if you bring a Captain or LM. You do not control the soldier. They are an AI controlled helper. It will be nice to have a pocket healer for my champ or a tank soldier for my minstrel in these instances. They are adding more for players to do especially casual and solo players. That's never a bad thing. You might want to hold your stupid comments until you get to experience skirmishes for yourself rather than pass judgement on a system you've not yet had the chance to play.

@Jason: I have played skirmishes in other MMO's. To have them in LOTRO is a joke and just something to keep players entertained for a short time. I guess players like you would like the game to be even easier then it is by giving all the classes a pet. Big deal!!!! It's bad enough that all classes get a free RES with an hour cool down. I did go back to LOTRO with the new EXP. It was not the game that it was a year ago and is just another crappy WOW clone. It's the same old grind in a smaller world and nothing changed. I have been playing MMO's since you were in diapers. But hey if want to spend the 20 bucks go for it, play it have fun. :)

Since I was in diapers huh. That comment alone makes you sound like a youngster. Making assumptions of others is a sign of immaturity. It's ok if you don't like the game. There are those of us that do. By the way, I am one of those players that like the free rez. Even though I hardly use it, it's nice to know it's there if I ever need it. I'm all for making the game easier whenever possible.

@Jason: You just said your self you want to make the game "easier" whenever possible. There is no fun in that but I can see that you are the typical drone player that doesn't or isn't bale to think on their own and wants everything planned out for them. Obviously you don't play PVP, since you want everything spoon fed. This is where the fun is at in an MMO. With LOTRO this was a huge after thought. The current customer base of people who play LOTRO left WOW and think that they are special and that this game is so much better in some way shape or form. While WOW isn't my cub of tea there is a hell lot more to do in LOTRO. I bet you do like the free RES and obviously you need it, is what you are trying to say. If you were a better player this wouldn't be the case. It's because of players like you that hard care MMO's are far between. Grow a pair and check out www.darkfallonline.com.

Once again with your assumptions. I happen to have a rank 7 Warleader so I PvP quite alot. I am not a hardcore player though. LOTRO is designed for the casual audience. However there is room for the hardcore elitists too. You can do your skirmishes on hard and I'll do mine on easy. We'll both be happy. I make no claims to be a good player. I have more important things to worry about than my skill in a videogame. I bow at your feet, master of the videogame. Please forgive my noobness. Like being good at some videogame will enable me to grow a pair! LMAO

The next expansion is Siege of Mirkwood, it was already announced a while ago. Also, they really haven't introduced new keys that need to be gathered for anything (except Skumfil), so announcing that horses will also become a passive skill doesn't really suggest anything about an upcoming expansion.

Look, here's how horses currently work. When you summon your horse, your character (you, for brevity) does this:
1. You're put into a "carrying" mode, as though you were carrying a bucket of water.
2. An animation is played of you mounting the horse.
3. A horse image is created in the spot where you were standing -- the horse is the default "brownish" color.
4. You are put into a "mounted" position.
5. The correct skin is applied to the horse, based on which horse you summoned.
6. You're given the standard horse speed buff.
7. When the horse moves, you are given a "bobbing" animation.

The only thing that's changing is #1. You will no longer be put into a carrying mode, which will allow you to interact with NPCs, cross barriers, etc. The new horse skill will likely bar you from using other skills and we have yet to see how it interacts with other speed buffs, whether it overwrites them or is overwritten by them or stacks with them or ignores them or what, but this isn't some huge horse thing that suggests that Turbine is about to bring out a horse expansion.

When mounts are customizable like the upcoming soldiers will be, then it'll probably be a giant horse expansion (Rohan). But the change in mounts, despite the authors belief, implies nothing about an upcoming expansion.

BTW, it's "Tuckborough, not Tuckburrow or Tuckberry. lol.

And Gollum was not tortured in Dol Guldur. Steefel fails at lore. Gollum was captured in Mirkwood by the elves and held in the halls of Thranduil in northern Mirkwood. He escaped there, was captured by forces of Sauron and tortured in Barad-dur in Mordor.

Other than that, pretty accurate writeup. :-)
