they're using Ogre 3d, an open source graphics engine, so that save them a lot of time; they're also using CEGUI for the UI, another time saver; and they also started out developing some wonderful editors for level creation these editors will be included with the game here is a video of the editor in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hu1KMHtAJsY
