Wait . . . what? Already? October 27 of 2009?! I'm not complaining since I've been looking forward to this, but I'm very surprised it's done already. Were they able to keep the base code from Mythos and just had to retool the game or something?

Oh I hope not, cause if they just re-used code from a F2P game they were developing, and are charging us 20 bucks to get it, Its not going to be pleasant.

Well, Torchlight is a standalone single player game. Once they have your $20 that's all they'll ever get. Mythos was a F2P game that was going to have microtransactions, mostly for crafting.

The screenshots don't really look very similar, I'm just curious how Runic Games cranked Torchlight out so quickly.

Torchlight shares absolutely no code or assets with Mythos, as that game is owned by HanbitSoft now. The reason Runic has been able to develop all this in only a year is simply because there are some very hard-working people on the game. If you want to know more, check out the feature that was posted on Gamasutra yesterday.

they're using Ogre 3d, an open source graphics engine, so that save them a lot of time; they're also using CEGUI for the UI, another time saver; and they also started out developing some wonderful editors for level creation
these editors will be included with the game
here is a video of the editor in action
