Population is WAR's biggest enemy right now, and it shows! They need to continue to merge servers so that there are actually things to do. I believe the recent "Snafzag Returns to WAR" posts have been especially enlightening on this issue. And while server population definitely is not the only problem plaguing WAR, having people on all the time to keep the RvR flowing in all tiers would do a lot for the game. Oh, and they need to buff reknown gain! ;)

WAR would be the perfect candidate for Free to Play with a cash shop. What does RvR need? Other players to kill...even if the majority of people are not spending a lot of money on the game, they would provide the fodder for people willing to spend a few dollars here and there. I enjoyed my brief time in WAR and would love to pop in now and again, but I'm done with subscriptions...there's way too many great games available for free.

Those are some serious changes - removal of stun, ungimping Destruction classes, fort changes (I assume more in line with new keeps and overall goal to introduce players to city sieges). And the underdog system! Can't wait.

One year more and WAR will be pretty awesome and ready for a real expansion. I mean Skaven, yes yes, bring rats to kill manthings.

Now if the game wouldn't lag so much with lots (>100) of players but that will be nearly impossible to fix :/

I think by the end of the year one of two things will happen

*they will announce a shutdown

or

*they will announce an expansion and revitalize the game with the news which may trigger some more aggressive tweaking.

My wife was just saying last night she would like to see Skaven also...(weird) I would like to see Bretonians and the addition of mounted combat. Maybe some Woodelves once all is said and done.

The addition of the other racial cities would be cool also, maybe scale them down a bit. 6 full size capitals seems a bit much, but some major towns that are easier to siege would be good.

Performance improvement goes without saying :)

It's really tough to say where the game is going at this point. IMHO it seems to be at a major decision point.

No mention of releasing a year before it was ready?

If the game was release standard when they put it out, then they might have been able to keep their servers filled

Hate to tear down WAR cause I'd like every game to do well but from what I've heard and from what I remember the "experience" of City RvR isn't much to speak of.

I wonder if this painfully biased blog will actually stave off the closure of this game.

Blogs have no influence whatso ever on whether a game stays open or not, subscriptions / money does.

I'm not very optimistic for WAR right now. I am predicting they shut down by Q1 to give EA a clean start for the year...

IF

this game isn't bringing a profit. Remember, as long as the game is making money, even a minimal amount, a company will see any product as salvageable.

And that is information that frankly no one posting on this site has access to.

The writer of the article is wrong .... That famous competition of "newly" launched MMO's is hardly touching upon the popluations of the other games.

Perhaps 5% or so, but he forgets these "new" games are going to loose their subs just as fast as AoC and War did. It is a regular cycle with all the subs games being published in the last years.

The only interesting part is to recruit back those 5% after the initial first (free) month play of these newbies.

Both CO and Aion will only hold out to 80 - 150 K subs also in 5 months time. So it is a question of just keep the game going.

WHEN is the public (and certainly these editors) going to realise no MMO's gain more than 200K subs in the long run. EVE is science fiction and so it has the market to itself and WOW is well WOW. All the rest is comdemned to live with under 200K subs after the launch period.

Nothing to do with " polish", nothing to do even with good or bad,... it ALL has to do with the subscriptions people need to pay to play just ONE game.

And sorry to say, but apart from those 2 (WOW - EVE) no other mmo's are worth a yearly long subscription. Namely games you INVEST in for years.

Mythic should stop -talking- and deliver more than tweaks in their recent updates; they're starting to remind me of AoC back when Gaute Godager was in charge, all talk and no significant action.
