The entire comic is also publicly available on PDF via rapidshare: http://rs86.rapidshare.com/files/274769199/aion_01.pdf

95% sure that's OK to list since Aionsource makes such a huge deal about being an "Official" NCSoft fansite, and it's on their front page.

IMO not very good, but I'm not much of a comic person either.

As "exciting" as this might seem to some, it's really not interesting at all. They've left some mighty huge plot-holes open (in the comic, not the official lore). The art was good, but with those gaping holes and it being just a one-shot left me wondering if it's intended audience was for kids or those folks at PAX.

The art looks weird for Aion... a little too 'western superhero', IMO. Maybe they're just trying to downplay its Korean roots to broaden the appeal. Or maybe (and this is probably more likely) a manhwa-style book wouldn't interest as many people.

Neil Googe is the artist. He's done some fantastic work for Wildstorm. Check out his other works http://www.dccomics.com/dccomics/search/?q=Googe&x=0&y=0

Heh personally I would have preferred manga style comic, or a western style with slight eastern influence like the web comic Freak Angels, but I love comics in general anyway so I'll probably get my hands on this somehow :P

It'd be cool if SOE could incorporate this into their DCUO game. I for one am excited about the possibilities of Aion set in a mumorpuger.

They kind of messed up on the Asmodian features. She's supposed to have claws on her hands, talons on her feet, glowing eyes in combat, and a mane down her back.

Even the comic books are being thrown at us.

How much more WOW copy can you get?

Aion: a small world with a small Lore with not even the slightest new mechanics (real time destruction?, phasing?, clustered servers?, underwater worlds? personal flying mounts?, competitive arena fights?, leveling through PvP?

The only BIG about this thing is the lying of eastern subscriptions. Once boasting a supposed 3.5 M it is now only half that big and the servers are no longer added. Now the Chinese need to pay and it is no longer free even the Asian themselves don't pay to play for it.

People who think this will be a big thing in the west are deluded, the only big thing they will see is a big empty hole in their pockets after giving themselves the illusion of playing an MMO. Fetch me 10 boars boys and do the levels in an animé world that just doens't live.

First off, what's wrong with the lore? It seems fine to me. It's based on traditional Hindu mythology of Daevas vs Asuras, with some changes and Judeo-Christian symbolism thrown in. I'm sure they'll have plenty of things to make into stories.

To address some of your criticisms, underwater areas are in development. There have been quite a few competitive arena tournaments in KAion, and there is also a PVPVE instance in which a small group from either faction attempt to fight against the NPCs in the instance and against each other. PVPing does give exp, although I can't comment on how much. Flying mounts in Aion would be redundant since everyone can already fly on their own, and would in fact be a step backwards since flying in Aion is central to the combat system in addition to transportation. Nevertheless, the head dev has announced in interviews that mounts in some form are being looked into, but they probably won't be for transportation.

The main outstanding features of Aion are its combination of really good graphics with low system requirements, unparralelled character customization (seriously it has the best character creator of any mmo), smooth, varied, and detailed character animations both in and out of combat, flight system, and its PVPVE system which offers options for pvp-specific areas, world pvp, and both at the same time as opposed to WoW's strict sectioning off of pvp battlegrounds and pve areas. Oh and Aion has extendable whip-like weapons of any weapon type (think Ivy from Soulcalibur). I've never heard of that in an MMO.

Things that it borrows from other mmos include getting stat bonuses for moving in different ways (i.e. strafing, backing up, moving forward), plenty of quests, and plenty of instanced dungeons.

Aion is a strong MMO, and it'll do fine.

Oh and what are you talking about Aion being free? I've never heard of it being free anywhere. Last I checked, you pay by the hour to play in China and Korea.
