As part of today's content update entitled Naga's Awakening, Runes of Magic players will have the opportunity to face the Demon Lord, who you might recognize as the namesake of the first chapter. He will be present in a public encounter that sees the city of Veranas in a strange "nightmare" version. This encounter allows any players -- up to 150 at a time -- to fight against the Demon Lord and his minions.
This is especially important to players as it is said to be "the toughest challenge in Runes of Magic to date." with "outstanding loot for the victors." Follow along after the break for a detailed description of this new encounter, and your best strategy in beating the Demon Lord.
The high level scenario is made up of three phases in and around the 'Varanas Nightmare', which has afflicted the minds of the city's inhabitants. Up to 150 players can simultaneously combat the terrible dream and fight to stop the Demon Lord. The first targets for player groups are dimensional portals which are spread around the burned out city. Twenty portals need to be closed before the task is completed and phase two begins. This is where players have to overcome three world bosses in succession. Should the adventurers achieve victory within three minutes, the third and final phase begins. If the players fail, then the scenario begins again from the first phase.
Well coordinated raids are required to defeat the third opponent since this character is actively supported by the Demon Lord. The Demon Lord doesn't actually engage in combat himself, but he does heal his vassals making the challenge difficult and victory very satisfying. Killing his minions doesn't only bestow reputation and honor on the hero for mastering the scenario, but as the toughest challenge in Runes of Magic to date, there is also an outstanding loot for the victors.

hurray! frogster and runewaker finally added the demon lord in. i would've been very disappointed if they released the expansion without remembering that we haven't been able to fight the demon lord. it looks like frogster is keeping their promises. good job!

I feel the artwork in Runes is the thing that makes the game feel like an F2P. I play and mostly enjoy the game, don't get me wrong, but I feel the atmosphere is just so regular and boring most of the time. The "towns" just feel like camps--not counting the two actual cities--considering you can see the environment outside of the town. The wilderness almost feels like it was randomly generated rather than having artists construct it--a tree here, a crumbled archway there, another tree that's exactly the same as the first one over there. I feel like the environments could just be done better--it's as if the game doesn't have any style so far.
