*rolls eyes* Nice, "cockteasing".

Anyway, I'd rather they wait until they put more work into the game, not release a buggy half done beta.

I still don't get why this just isn't a regular single player RPG game like the KotOR games were, with heavy story. Every thing about this game's design doesn't warrant it being a MMORPG that is worth paying a sub for. Their "everyone wants to be the Captain" pitch and making it heavily instanced tells me they don't get what the creative Star Trek community have been wanting and hoping for since SOE first announced a Star Trek MMORPG before dropping it in favor of SWG almost a decade ago.

Cryptic's game sounds like a great idea for a single player game, but most MMORPG gamers are all about choices and want to adventure with other players, not with NPC pets.

Well, I can't claim to know what the entire "Star Trek community" has been wanting, but I am at least a small *part* of that (Star Trek fan) community, and this is almost exactly the game design I had been hoping to see.

Guild Wars, a similarly designed game in some respects, has been immensely popular. STO seems to me to be a kind "spiritual successor" (in game design) to Guild Wars, and I am really looking forward to playing it.

A lot of people enjoy MMOs but prefer to play with ONE or TWO other players, something you cannot do in a single-player game (and, yes, enjoy solo content as well).

Most MMOs design their mission/instanced content around groups of FIVE to SIX players. I am really glad that STO permits that kind of grouping but does not require it. STO, like Guild Wars, evidently allows grouping but does not plunge its players into the "LFG/Need Healer/Need Tank Hell-Hole" that most other upcoming MMOs are founded upon.

I suspect that STO will do very well. It's good to see some online, multiplayer games thinking "outside the box." For those who are looking for more "conventional MMO-type content" there are plenty of other options to choose from.

"Star Trek Online is clearly shooting for a broad audience, and though its permissiveness and flexibility might mean it lacks depth for players who like keen specialisation"

Is this code for "they made a vanilla STO for dummies to appeal to the lowest common denominator?"

I'm a long time Star Trek fan so I'm excited and hope they do justice to Star Trek.
