Not everyone are rich enough to buy a brand new computer each year or every time a new game is released. Some of them don't even know how to upgrade the damn thing!

However, they do know how to push buttons on a controller.
From where i come from (Japan), PC Gaming is truely hardcore.... buy a game, installing it, configuring your firewall and virus protection so you can play online.... is a bit overwealming to the average gamer here.
People just want to buy their game, put it into the machine and play it.
No need to look at the system requirments, no need to see if your OS is compadable, no need to check if you have enough hard disk space.

Probably one of the reasons why the console is so popular; quick and easy to use.

Besides I havn't seen a MMO that acturally changes it's system specs to fit the every evolving computer specs.
Look at WoW, one of the most succesful MMOs out there, and even my 5 year old computer can still play that game at Full-Graphics.

A bit off topic but....
I own a PS3..... but hardly use it to play online. Pretty much the only thing I play online on the PS3 are the exclusive titles like Littlebigplanet and Killzone 2.

When using a console I feel limited in so many ways. I can't mod games, I can't reassign the controls to my liking, I can't Alt-tab and do 4 other stuff while I'm still playing my games >.<

When I'm playing a MMO, I'm not only playing the game, but I'm also checking my mail, chatting with friends, looking at massively, looking up my next quest, reading lore, listening to music and studying for my next physics exam.
So if the MMO isn't action packed and requiring my full concentration to play it, then i won't be playing it on the console.

"From where i come from (Japan), PC Gaming is truely hardcore.... buy a game, installing it, configuring your firewall and virus protection so you can play online.... is a bit overwealming to the average gamer here."

...I find it kind of hard to believe that in japan(or any tech savvy country for that matter) gamers find it difficult to follow a 4 or 5 click process... seriously even the ps3 installs games, and you still have to config your router to play online and that process is much more complicated.

"Besides I havn't seen a MMO that acturally changes it's system specs to fit the every evolving computer specs.Look at WoW, one of the most succesful MMOs out there, and even my 5 year old computer can still play that game at Full-Graphics."

Completely and utterly incorrect, WoW does change it's sys requirements with expansions. As did eq, ultima, etc. They are extremely careful to no alienate their cust base(many many casual users in WoW's case) however so min req. changes are usually minimal.

"the ps3 installs games"

The PS3 installs games automatically. The PS3 also supports out of the box internet connection and if you have a wirless router there is no need to configure any settings.
The Console Gaming population is far greater than the PC Gaming population in Japan because of Pornographic games dominating the PC Gaming Market.

Most people avoid PC games thinking that they all are pornographic.
Ask any Japanese PC Gamer and they will agree to this.

"WoW does change it's sys requirements with expansions. "
I made a false assumption but my point still stays clear. You do not need to keep on upgrading your computer to play a MMO.

Having no harddrives as standard will do that to you.

The big secret of MMORPG play on consoles is the following:

You need playing sessions of 30 minutes max.
You hop in, find a group, go play and hop out, all in short sessions.

Think BG's, think the new 30 minutes dungeons of WotlK (and clustered LFG servers).
Think daily quests.
Think fast gathering professions.
Think Arena like matches.

Reread the above .... and now you know why Blizzard is using the WOW engine to develop a game for the next gen XBoX for Microsoft.
Just read the news from last march. Leaks and Blizzrd couldn't be fast enough to deny it all....

Now you also know Microsoft and Blizzard will release this baby perhaps even year as a full surprise.

Exclusively on the new XBox. Microsoft is not interested in being second with a mediocre mmorpg.

All understood the article now ?
