Aion's open beta is officially on the way so everybody will be able to sample the delights of Atreia between September 6th and 13th. Ahead of this, NCsoft has announced the availability of the Aion beta client. The client can now be downloaded from various corners of the internet, including FilePlanet and GamersHell, but the company has also announced they are making it available via BitTorrent.
Despite its shady reputation as the medium of choice for file-sharers and illegal downloads, BitTorrent itself is quite legal. Indeed it's a popular method of downloading files which has been embraced by numerous companies over the years. However, if you still want to use traditional methods, NCsoft has also announced that FilePlanet will be giving away a selection of open beta keys beginning Tuesday, September 1st. But anyone who has pre-ordered the game or won a full beta key from a competition just have to bid their time until the open beta begins.

Lame...another open beta that isn't actually open. If the developers weren't idiots they would know that if they would make the beta available to everyone more people would play it come release, because of people such as myself who want to see what its like but don't want to pre-order before trying it out, or pay FilePlanet any money...

Another voice added to the others.
I will not play an MMO i don't get to test first. It is too large a monetary investment to take with the only knowledge available being second hand from other people.

The preorder costs $5 at your local video game store. In the box is a card with i key on it. follow the directions on the card then download the beta.
It is worth $5 to try it. If you like it the purchase of the preorder counts as $5 off the price of the game, if not then you only invested $5. I understand were in a recession but com'n now, it looks like people are just trying to hate the game before even actually trying it.
As you guessed, I tried it, i liked it.

Well I bet the dev feel if you are really interested in the game $5 is not a huge investment to try the game. Plus there are tons of places to see gameplay. So if you don't want to shell out $5 then you must not want to play it that badly.

In the past Gamestop let people preroder and get the beta key and if you didnt like the game you could cancel and get all your money back. me and a friend preordered DDO and hated the beta and returned to the store before live.

I assumed opened beta meant anyone could log in. I wasted my time downloading and installing this 9gb game and now I can't even try it. Oh well, I guess I will keep playing wow. Too bad they lost a potential lifetime customer paying them monthly Thanks for wasting my time, I will now boycott this game.
