I don't think the Sith Warrior takes damage at all in the video, so I suspect they merely gave it godmode for the sake of not dying while filming. ;P

It will probably be /much/ more difficult than it looks when you can actually be damaged.

I was going to make the same comment, but it's still so far off that I just chalked it up to "placeholder." Balance is usually one of the last aspects to receive focus, so I think it's prudent to just overlook this issue for the time being.

I felt severely underwhelmed by these videos. The dev voiceover only served to point out what was missing from the game. Every time he threw out a buzzword it reinforced the exact opposite in my mind.

The combat model they are using is tired and their implementation looked lackluster (they should have turned off godmode, trivial combat is not exciting to watch). Obviously this isn't the finished article but I hope characters spend most of their time with A LOT more abilities than the few in the video or things will get boring fast.

I'm mainly on the fence because Bioware have shown no compelling reason for this to be an MMO. I have a feeling that I'd prefer KOTOR 3 with or without multiplayer support (no centralised servers). Giving other people dialogue choices in my story does not warrant a subscription fee. I really care about the gameplay and it sounds like they're giving me much more bang for my buck with Mass Effect 2 (and its upgraded combat).

Exactly my thinking as well. What is so 'massive' about this game? An epic quest line ala Tortage is great, but then what?

"I'm mainly on the fence because Bioware have shown no compelling reason for this to be an MMO."

Was there a compelling reason for Warcraft 4 to be an MMO? Nope, but that doesn't mean WoW is worthless. Sometimes you can have an MMO for seemingly no reason. I for one am eager to have another Star Wars MMO, this one with a pedigree to die for. To be fair, SWG had a great pedigree too(Raph Koster, I still love you!), but we have BioWare backing TOR.

I'm curious on how 'massive multiplayer' fits into their definition of MMO. The game looks like a sweet ass sequel to Kotor rather than a new MMORPG. It's a fine line, I mean on the one hand it should have auction houses and city hubs with dozens of players, but when those players are all sith and jedi waving around lightsabers? Eh.

Immersion is the hardest part for a star wars mmo. If anyone can pull it off it's Bioware tho.

Its looking great! The stylised realism might be an aquired taste for some, but I think its the best decision the could've made. It means that people with a broad variety of computers can play it, it looks way better than that 'other mmo', and its something that will stick in people's minds as an individual look.

Aside from the looks, the game looks great fun to play. I can't wait.

Disappointing. It might be ok but I expected a LOT more from them, I know his is very early in the development (hopefully) and it probably won't be out for a while, but games really don't change a whole lot after the creators release videos etc.

That boss fight was way too simple, even though it was 2 against 1.. Not keen on decimating a boss so easily... The shoot outs were a little lackluster as well, just standing there getting shot seems kind of lame...

Im not bashing it though, just hope we have more of a challenge.. This will be mostly adults playing, please remember that... This video did make me decide to choose a bounty hunter over the smuggler though.. At least in the beginning.. The flame thrower and flying special attack were straight up awesome sauce....

I had thought that the boss fight looked too simple too but a guildy of mine in another game that will not be mentioned pointed out that the PCs are 6 levels above the mobs. That would explain things.

Upon knowing from the very first news of SWTOR I its been on my list until I saw the video.

1 - Animations. Yes, what would you do most of the time? Of course you're going to PvE and PvP in action, in motion. You see what you do, you see the animations. Its very stale, generic from what we should feel about Star Wars. Its the thing when you watch Star Wars films and still get excited even though you watched it over a hundred times.

2 - Story. Yes, that is what their main fourth pillar to the MMO genre. But did you ever think of, what "if" I've done it ALL? What now? We're going for the long haul here not a 100 meter dash, its the whole marathon thing when you're in an MMO genre. It's what they are saying as their strength, but I can find it their strength also as their weakness.

3 - Fighting scene. Its really ridiculous to fight with in front of an enemy covering behind a rock and your just their like a trigger happy turret in the middle of the battle scene.

I really have high hopes for BioWare delivering Star Wars: The Old Republic as my next MMO. But after the video it made me think again. As I don't want to rush things up and with the hype buzzing around it. Now, I'm gonna take the safe spot of waiting until some three months after the release of this then re-evaluate the pros and cons with it before jumping in another decision that I might regret. I don't want to make the same mistake I made with Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.

This was the worst part of the gameplay video.

Any idea why all of these videos (even the ones on IGN's pages) keep saying "Unsupported format" and then won't play? Garrr!

Hopefully they leave out the PVP and just make a fun game. They have a lot more time to make it even better. For the first look I think it's pretty cool.
