Another game that has what I want, but is still in the pre-beta stage. Unfortunately, none of the others like it have gotten past that point yet.

Well, certainly looks like those who want that old UO type of game will have their pick now.

Darkfall, Mortal Online, and now Dawntide.

Darkfall managed to fall off my radar about ten minutes after it launched. Mortal Online is scarce with the info. We'll see about Dawntide.

Problem with all these UO type games coming out is I'm not sure how good any of them are gonna turn out beyond what they promise. I mean, say what you want about Garriot, I won't defend him, but you have to admit he made UO what it was, and I'm not sure if any of these guys have a fraction of that talent when he was at his best. Darkfall turned out to be an epic failure, and while Mortal does seem rather interesting, until we see some more stuff out of it in regards to something that even looks half finished, it's still kind of sketchy. This however doesn't look all that inspired...

What made UO 'great' is that there weren't any other options for play. You had carebears and PKs stuck in the same room together. That won't ever happen again; notice how UO went directly to Hades the instant that EverQuest launched offering non-PK servers.

Theres no NDA for Dawntide Beta and I can say that I am in it, So far the game is showing a lot of promise but it is in a very early stage.
I also pre ordered and am testing Mortal Online.
Both games I think will turn out very well for anyone missing old UO.

So, if the previous trend in mmos was to create WoW clones, I feel safe in saying that the current trend is making UO clones. These developers are going to need to foster some originality or they will quickly be out of a job. Also, I'd be interested to know what the payment situation is with this game, f2p? sub?

People like you are why the MMO community is so fucking annoying. There is no WoW Clone, UO Clone, or any other Clone. Just another MMO that has been made witht he same MMO content that has been passed down through generations.

And if having a game like UO is against the law, send me off now.

"As far as the actual resource system and crafting process go, we've drawn a lot of inspiration from UO and SWG."

I'm hooked.
