Citizens of Millenium City, take up your arms! Dr. Destroyer is attacking the city once more, but this time he has sent in legions upon legions of robots, including new Mega-Destroid! The robots are all over the city, but the Champions have been dispatched to fix the crisis, along with countless other heroes!
If you want to get in on some Dr. Destroyer smashing action, then you have to act today! It's the last day of the Champions Online beta test, and they're going out with their usual bang. All you have to do is log in, visit Millenium City (available from the Canadian or Desert helipads) and then speak with the cop on the helipad who's waving his arms about in the air. Once you do that, you'll be leveled up to 40, given all the powers you ever wanted, and you'll have a shot at taking down some Mega-Destroid. Destroids will be attacking until 3 AM ET, 12 AM PT this evening, when Cryptic switches off the lights.
Those who take down the Mega-Destroid will be given a special perk for their accomplishments (although the perk is kinda borked right now) and a special Mini-Destroid action figure for the live game! Kinda cool, and cute, in a destructive kind of way.

After Blizzcon, does anyone really care about this anymore?

Why would Blizzcon's announcement of Cataclysm remove relevance of CO or its open beta event?
the games arent even in the same genre and thus very likely appeal to TOTALLY different crowds.
And even to those prospective CO players who do also play WoW it hardly removes relevance because the event is um... NOW and Cataclysm um ISNT..

The perk/pet isn't borked. If people actually read the description of the event, they'd know that it's unlocked for your retail account, not during beta.
"All participants who help take down a Mega-Destroid will receive special perks and items which will be available to them at launch, including a “Mini-Destroid” action figure. Good luck!"

I thought the wording was a little bit vague. That and the fact that the Toy Master *sells* the items in question led me to believe that we'd unlock the account-bound perk during the event and then purchase the items later.
And there's no positive confirmation of success like there is for any other perk. It's a little confusing, IMO.

I think all I could end up doing was pissing him off. Ha, every time we got him , or got close to him, he ended up force blasting us to heaven and back. I enjoyed it though

Nice end of Beta even but I hope it's not used to hide the horrible experience nerf that happened a few days ago. Since mobs give next to no experience in Champions, mission rewards are the only real way to advance. After the changes players find them selves exhausting mission hubs and forced to start higher level missions at lower level. Even if they manage to finish the missions, they end up holding onto the mission rewards because they are to low to use them. It was released that the XP change was simply to collect some data but as the end of Beta they still haven't changed it back and allot of people aren't happy.

Ah ha, so that's what they did with it. I could see the difference with my first alt, who left the tutorial zone at a lower levelthan my main, despite having done the same Qs, and is now struggling somewhat in Canada around level 6, with one higher level Q that's really too high for her.
Here's hoping mob XP is boosted back a bit for retail.

Nothing wrong with what they did to xp. it was inflated to help testers level fast. They had no intention on leaving it that way for live thankfully. Forcing people to get out into the world and look for quests (escort missions etc) is a good thing in my book.

Hopefully it will be adjusted to somewhere between where it was a few days ago, and where it is now.

Awesome end of beta event. Tons of fun. The PvP@40 was amazing. No one fighting with the same styles, everyone different. The UNITY (end game content) missions were really challenging and fun.
It was so refreshing from the old MMOs that I don't think I'll ever go back to class type games.
So you think you'd fly away and rain in fire down bellow and it's all easy? Try getting a flying kick to the face as you drop like a fly. Or an emo looking vixen suddenly summons a horde of diabolical creatures on you... then your nemesis pops up and kicks both your ass around.
This game is pure utter genius!

All the people defending the changes to the XP need to really ask themselves something. If the changes were intentional, why are players unable to use the reward items from the last missions in their chosen crisis zone? Make a new character and level him through the tutorial and the intial crisis. Unless you go out of your way to street sweep doing every single mission will level you close to 2 levels under the rewards you receive. That right there is proof that the experience curve that aligns character level to the mission hubs has been broken from intentional design. Unless they plan for players to farm minions worth 10 xp to catch up to each hub.

After Bill Roper, and the Micro-Tran news, and the utter failure of a Open Beta launch this game had a really long way to go to impress me.
And no matter what anyone says, it IS City of Heroes 2. Even the menu's and selections and game concepts are the same. BUT it is also extremely pleasing on the eyes, a utter breath of fresh air (At least to me.) compared to what is out in MMO's at this time.
Not being Fantasy is a huge plus to me, been playing fantasy MMO's since EQ1 and I'm sick of it as I am WW2 FPS games. The control takes a bit of getting used to much like I remember COH's controls did for me.
The game is fun, the character creater is exactly as you would expect from the creators of COH which is to say it is superb. Have a comic book character you love odd's are with enough time you can make it.
Open Beta has been fun and I plan on picking this game up. The extended time on the Open Beta is a nice touch considering the difficulties at the start.
You don't see that many companies actually do anything beyond the normal anymore so Kudos to Cryptic.
