If the actual game was even 1/8 as cool as the character creator, it would be phenomenal.

It's not. Maybe the uninitiated 360 crowd will be impressed, but anybody who has ever played any MMO before will be left bored and disappointed.

I must not be that average then, because I've been playing MMOs since UO and I've found the game quite fun so far.

Pay no attention to the troll above. I haven't been this addicted to an MMO since the launch of WoW 4 years ago. It's fun, it's superhero madness, it has a ton of room to grow.

I love how people get labeled a troll just because someone don't agree with that opinion.

Why are they a troll? They're giving their opinion on their experience with a game they've tried. If anything, you're trolling by telling others not to pay attention to the poster's comment. Why should I take your "fanboi" point of view over the other poster's "hater" point of view?

I don't agree with your post about the game being fun, I happen to think it's a step backward and dumbed down game for a "next gen" MMO, but I don't think you're a troll because you like that type of game, where I didn't. Not everyone is going to like it, while some will like it very much. Won't be the first time this happens.

This game has a lot of potential, however they are releasing it too early. The powers are terribly balanced. I was very excited about this game and enjoyed it tremendously at first. I tried out nearly all the powers in many different combinations up to level 10 or higher.

This game is close to being great. I didn't notice the imbalances right away. But once I played around with all the powers, the imbalances are glaringly obvious, and to me, a game breaker. I simply can't ignore them now that I've seen them.

For instance, the regen power is incredibly over powered. If you start getting hurt to much, simply hit your block key and heal back up to full, regardless on who is attacking you. Yet, if you take the defensive power of "reflexes" you go down fast..

I love being able to make a concept character, but when you now how gimped your comparative power is compared others that do the same thing, you don't feel so much like a hero, but rather, a hero wanna be.

I don't love this game, but I do love what this game could become in another 6 months to a year.

I'm afraid everyone that starts this game at release will be beta testing it for minor bugs, and major imbalances for a long while and may get frustrated with all the major changes they will need to do over the course of the next few months changing the powers to be in balance.

I don't want to beta yet another MMO for 6 months to a year after it is released.

My pre-order has been canceled..

Balance has been hard for a lot of MMOs to achieve. It's going to be even harder for CO because of how customizable the abilities are. And since CO is so new the particular example you gave could be a bug not part of the design. And how can you really get a feel for the balance until you get to the end game? And in the tier 1 arena, everyone fights at level 10, but the real level 10 characters are going to be stronger because of the power points they've spent.

The open houses these devs throw prior to launch really hurts these MMO's. There is a significant demographic (of which i fall into) that cannot, and will not relevel characters, thus if i try a beta (which i rarely do as i send most to the trash) i wont play the game when it comes out, reason? because i have done it once already.

I went and tried Champions, got to 19 and realizing the wipe that would be coming just quit and removed it from the ol puter, really no pont in continuing to play it. It was ok, nothing to write to anyone about, but also very forgettable, as what i had seen was going to be the same from 20- to whatever level they cap at.

Open house for an MMO is suicide for alot of MMO's as the game is gold and whatever is wrong or whatever bad taste comes with that open house carries over. Calling it an open beta only fools the foolish, making them think they are actually doing something, ionstead the devs know a solid majority of MMO players are mindless mushrooms, using that marketing slight of hand to harvest as many mushrooms as possible. It is a fact alot of folks do not sub due to wipes for whatever reason, and then folks like me that wont relevel toons or for that matter make a second toon in any game as it boggles my mind to see someone go through the same crap again, even with a different style character.

Good luck to champions, at least they will do better than some of those coming out along the same timeframes......

It is a fact that that sentence is unreadable.

You're saying that these devs aren't getting your money because they had the AUDACITY to run a free open beta where everybody was entirely clear that their characters would be wiped at the end? You realize that allowing people to keep beta characters alienates early adopters right? How exactly is anybody being patronized by getting a free sneak-peak of a game they're looking forward to? Are you perhaps from a bizzarro world where ponies live in trees and ice cream is made form sawdust?

@Elmoogle

I think you missed the point the poster was trying to make. They're not complaining you can't keep the beta characters, they're saying that a lot of players likely hopped into the beta early this week (the ones who didn't have patcher issues) and played all week long, grinding their hearts away till level 20+, some of these players when they think about purchasing the game for launch, will think how they'll have to do those same exact quests all over again and just decide the game isn't worth going through all of that again. It's not just CO, it happens in every game that offers a preview.

Downloaded it, played it. It's no Aion, then again it's not trying to be. It really is pretty dumbed down as the guy a few posts above me said. It might be more fun when you get higher I don't know, but the only thing thats kept me playing is the red aura coming off the back of my cape. I love that shit.

"It's no Aion,"

A good enough reason to try the game as any other.

I came into this openbeta with not a lot of expectations. And i have to say im pleasantly suprised, you can clearly see the influence from CoH but sofar im having a blast. The graphics and animations really capture the feeling of being a superhero, the movement powers are a lot of fun and well made. Haven't really seen any major showstopper bugs yet either.

But, and this is a big but. It's obvious that there are some major imbalance problems with the powers, in pve this isn't so much a problem, but in pvp it really shows. But then again every game out there that mixes pve and pvp has the same problem. My only concern is that they will go the wow way and that pve will suffer from the tweaks they will make for pvp.

Other than that its fun, fresh and surprisingly stable for a openbeta. If you have the cash to spare and are into the whole superhero thing i highly recommend to take it for a spin.

Not ready for prime-time.

Remember, it is not 'Beta' anymore. We are now playing the release version + patches. Unless you want to call it the 'Paid-Beta' now. Which is what it is really going to be for the next three to six months.

* Buggy Character Creation
* Buggy Quests
* Buggy UI
* Critically Broken Powers
* Muddy Graphics
* Poor Client Side Performance
* Already has a 'Low-Population' feel to it
* Has a 'Been-There-Done-That' mojo going

Check out Cryptics 'Known Issues' posts.

I am starting to think that these companies are their own worst enemies. I mean, how do you send a game to press with the damn Chat Box not fully functional?

Oh, I know. 'They' will fix it. Like 'They' fixed Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, Dungeons & Dragons Online, and a host of others.

But, think about it. If the Chat Box was not fully working, what does that say about the really complex parts of the game being in release condition?

Yeah, the knowledge that you'll have to go through the whole thing again come retail is a little dispiriting. I'm going to leave it for a while, then come back once it's had a chance to 'freshen up'. :D
