I have had this out on other sites, but am upset that champions is on open beta. "Open Beta" has been defined as a point in the games lifecycle where dev's say "We know it's not done yet, but come play it to help stress test it and find bugs." you have to PAY to download champions. you can't be a member at fileplanet, you MUST be a subsriber. If you have to pay someone its not open. So if i'm developing a game, and i announce it's "open beta" but i still only let the original 10 people ingame i invited earlier, is my game in "open beta", but i made an annoucement that it was,,so it must be. what happen to the old saying "actions are louder than words" i'm so tired of game companies putting out one set of "words" and their "actions" are not in tune with those words......

@ ArrisB I think you make my point exactly. That shows how marketing has distorted everything. It's impossible to have an "exclusive open beta" if your only letting "some people" in like fileplanets members, then its not an open beta, its still a closed beta, the term "open" and "closed" is black and white, there can be no grey area here. so if it was "open" anyone could get in, but they can't unless they are fileplanet members, thus it's still a "closed beta" game. There is nothing that says a game must have an open beta, this is a game that is going from "closed beta" to release, marketing tagged the world "open" there, but it is still closed.

Your more than welcome to assume what 'Open Beta' has come to mean for MMOs. Truth is, it's not concretely defined in programming, let alone, it's at the dev companies discretion to interpret it as they wish for whatever reason.

It's open to all paying subscribers of FP. Sounds open to me. Closed means they are hand picking people based on computer reqs and their own needs. I was already a member of FP and thus was given access. If people are crying about HAVING to pay JUST for CO, they are missing the point. FP offers so many things aside from a beta for a single game.

Now, what really angers me about betas now-a-days, especially open ones, are how they are taken in by the player base. It doesn't seem like they are beta tests at all any more. Just early access to try out a game. I remember vividly the first times I logged into UO and EQ during the beta. It was HORRIBLE, but you didn't see people whining about the state of the game... it was in beta.... why would you. There were SOOO many negative comments about the patcher failure at the start of open beta for CO.... but.... that was the entire point... to stress things, patcher included. Instead of being happy they did their jobs as testers, they complained about their early preview of a game not working, and having lost money because they had to buy beta access.

It's not like CO is profiting from FP getting subs, and even if they get a little cut of it somehow, good for them, it's not like any of the people signing up for FP just for CO are going to actually submit a bug or do more than complain anyway.

"Jumpgate Evolution (NetDevil) - Announcement - Signup (launch delayed indefinitely)"

Well that's disappointing. This was one of the games i was really looking forward to, a nice spaceship mmo that isn't EvE (played eve a good bit, i can't stand it, others enjoy it, but not me).
