On one level it's really funny - that they would waste time and effort on useless crap like this while Rome lags. On the other level it's really very depressing...

Actually, I don't think Linden Lab worked on this. More likely it's a product from Vivox.

I used the beta offering quite a bit, basically when one party is stuck in a situation where they cannot login to SL (e.g. out and about on a cell phone, or in an office behind a firewall, etc.) It works quite well for such situations, but a major deficiency is that one can only "call in", there is no way for avatars to "call out", which might be even more useful.

I call it "ava-LINE", not "ava-LEEN".

I suspect Linden Lab want's us to pronounce it "Ava-line" - in which case they should have called it that (with the hyphen) - otherwise it is too familiar a name(word) as "avaleen".

Just my useless .0001L$.

I tried it once during beta, then never bothered after that.

If people want to send me voice mail, yahoo does it for free, and there's always the slightly-less-convenient method of emailing an MP3.

I used it in Beta once or twice, but I think for it to really succed it needs to be less a one-way feature and more like skype.
