My laptop is way below even the minimum specs (Especially in the video card department) but the open beta runs fine on low/medium graphic settings.

I was worried too, but I am glad I can play it. Good Luck!

Save some money and just buy some comics instead. CO is shaping up to be a flop.

I'm having a blast in beta. Especially the travel powers are impressive. After rocket jumping your way through the desert, you'll never want to jump into a 3 sec cast mount ever again.

Give the game a good try, if it don't float your boat, get Aion. But stop trying to diminish a legitimately well-made game because you don't like it. You know when something is made with love and this game is, period.

Then again it might not be your cup of tea, but that's another matter.

@sueco: I'm not one for the input lag, though, which there seems to be a lot of. I've noticed it's not on my machine because I can disconnect my ethernet from the computer and have my character completely stop while I try to move him meaning it's more of a computational load on the servers. But past that point, I really like the game, it's just a hard hurdle for me to jump over if I am going to get this game.

Teleport is not quite what I hoped, but its still a blast to use.

Flight seems to be pretty cool too. They did a decent job with the movement powers and like any good superhero, has the cool movement powers pretty soon in their "career".

What did you expect it to be? Just curious but I'm liking teleport on my character quite a bit.

I really thought I was gonna hate this game but I'm liking it a lot more that Aion so far.

I was expecting more of move from one spot to another thing. Especially being able to get to ledges and stuff. Maybe with a little target area to place and that's whre you end up.

The way it works out, is you "disappear" for up to 5 seconds and everything goes hazy and you get like 100% speed movement boost then you reappear. Its a total blast to use and amazing in the little instances they have. T-port through the group, let your teams engage them then hit them from behind.

I've been skeptical about this because of the reviews. However, looking at the gameplay vids on youtube has increased my interest to "curious" level.

Please, please, PLEASE do not listen to "reviews" written by people in comments on this site. Most negative reviews are written by douches who seem to hate everything.

I've beta tested Champions for almost a year. It's come a loooooooooong way. Like all games, it has strengths and weaknesses. Like most enjoyable games, the strengths outweigh the weaknesses.

Massivley is probably the last place to look for a balanced review on...anything really. It's Ground Zero for the fandumb.

In fact, I am going to give a review for your comment a 4/10. Just to keep in spirit with the above replies.

Is flying just to easy for you? Do you crave the ability to slide past where you want to go? Do you like to move slowly throw the air? Then the hover disk is for you!!!!

Loving this game so much. I've got the fire flight power and that video didn't do it much justice. :P The cool part is taking off you just fly up kicking your arms and legs like your about to lose control.

Powers are really cool looking too, Putting your hand up and firing out this heat wave towards enemies and firing fireballs out your fists.

Really awesome looking. Just managed to deal with Canada's crisis zone and it's now opened up into this massive zone. That big guy that got summoned at the end of the crisis is something to look forward to i think. I'd bet it's a boss I'll be seeing later.

This game has me sold, awesome. Love it. I'm not going to try and convince anyone to play it because it's a super hero MMOG..and it's certainly not for everyone. But if you get a chance give it a play, get out the tutorial and finish your first crisis area it really picks up.

Highly recommend it.

Just started playing the open beta last night. Got through the tutorial zone which was informative but also tedious (the boss fight at the end was cinematic and not too hard - nice job). Heading to Canada tonight after a stop at the Powerhouse for my travel powers....I think I'm sold on the Rocket boots...yah.

I am a long time COH player and I had a feeling about this game. There are so many of those comfortable similarities, from the character customization to the addition of the 'Paragon' control scheme - they really did a great job of balancing the COH players with the new players and adding more action and more of everything we love about becoming a Superhero.

Please play this yourself and when you're tired, your eyes are bleeding and you still want more - you realize, 'I am the closest I have ever been, to being inside a comic."

Rocket boots are cool. Early in beta, they were ahted becasue of some "thrusting" mechanic they wanted to implement. From my testing, rocket boots are slow (speed-wise) initially but eventually ramp up (again, speed-wise) to be a fast travel power.

Powers like "flight" are a nice, consistent flying power. The same speed from the moment you press the button.

All of the flight powers, other than TP, have different speeds in/out of combat. Rocket Boots have a faster top speed than regular flight, but even flight kicks from a low to higher gear.

I installed the Win 7 RC on all of my computers a few weeks ago and never felt compelled to reinstall the Beta on my machines. I had been playing it for about three months, but just couldn't get into it.

I have a lot of issues with how it's handled the content and how it handles power selections. No, im not a hater, or as one erudite poster said a 'douche'.

For the content... I feel that all im getting is rehashed WoW quests. "hey.. the moose are acting strange.. I need you to go get me five livers so i can study them". To me, that's not heroic. VERY few of the missions I played in Co made me feel like a superhero.. I felt like some superpowerful mercenary. I didn't feel like I was fighting crime on behalf of the citizens.

Now, CoH has TOO many instances. I will completely be the first to say that. So many that it becomes totally repetitive..and thank goodness for what the Good, non farm AE missions have done.. some of the creativity that some people have put into the missions REALLY turn them on their ear and make them a bit more than just the standard tank and spank on the same maps we've been used to. We NEED some more content and in new places and I am getting VERY frustrated with CoH in that respect. (to the point I've basically stopped playing and have stepped down from the leadershipmy guild ) However the open world that CO has, really works to destroy any immersion. When im on a mission to collect those 5 moose livers.. and I get to the area and there's a small hoard of other heroes there..it takes away from trying to pretend that my actions are doing any good. When I go to take out a boss.. get there to see someone else take him down.. it.. reinforces the artificiality of the environment and trivializes those actions for me.

I really don't look how the characters look. They do a VERY good job at letting people make VERY modern Bronze Age chars, ammo belts galore, and doodads and gadgets, monsterfaces and scales... but the capes and tights looks are.. limiting. I actually couldn't remake several of my CoH chars in the CO creator to the degree that I was satisfied with their looks. All of the chars look like they are just blow up vinyl dolls, and I keep expecting to see that little clear plastic blow up valve on the their lower backs. Everyone has the same...vaguely downs syndrome looking face, and even with the sliders everyone looks vaguely related to each other. (Inbred Champions?)

For the gameplay... I realize that they were trying to go away from the holy trinity.. and i can appreciate that. However.. if I want to make a truly support char in this game.. who does heals and crowd control.. I can't. I actually like that play style, and in this game.. every combat that I start to do something vaguely like that, I get low on endurance and have to resort to pew pew pew pew pew to get my end back. Everyone HAS to be some kind of blaster or scrapper, with other little bits tacked on. In CoH I can make chars that never barely damage my foes...that option is not here..at some point.. everyone has to rely on direct damage.

The "inspirations" bother me as well. In CoH.. they go directly into a players inventory.. in CO they drop to the ground.. so it's a race amongst team members to see who gets them first, without regard to actually who needs what. For a moment I felt like i was watching Super Mario Bros.

One interesting comment I saw so often from the beta forums was that the game was far more fun and exciting to play using a controller. I think that might perhaps be where some of the dichotomy comes from. I've never been a console player, and almost without a single exception, the people who have a lot more experience playing console games like this game more. People who are traditionally more pc based have more issues with it, from the anecdotal evidence I've seen. I think it's all a matter how we were 'raised' in playing games and where the majority of our experiences are coming from. I've actually never once played WoW..so many of the conventions that are common to that game and that have filtered out to the mmo community are totally foreign concepts to me. I truly am a child of CoH..it was the first MMO I played, and while I've dabbled with Lotro, AoC, and EVE.. I keep coming back to CoH.

I do hope that the folks who like it have fun with it. I really do. Everyone should have a game they can have fun with, and if some people can have fun with that game.. more power to them. All I know is that I didn't like it, didn't like how it played, and I didn't like how it looked.

On the support character topic:

You know, the endurance builder is a pew pew, but in a way you can think of it as a DoT or even white damage from other games. Other than the fact you have to remember to turn it on in combat, it is really nothing more than that.

When you reach the first new power you get, you can respec everything out and just pick back up the end builder and maybe a CC (if available at that point). If not, you might just have to make CC your 3rd power. After that, you can, in fact, choose nothing but supporting powers. I don't think there are enough of them, but I think there are enough to make you a great addition to any team but suck on your own.

At level 8 you start to mess with stances. You can go defensive/offensive/support/balanced. The stance modifies your powers and your stats quite a bit as well as how aggro works. This, again, can change your gameplay quite a bit.

In the closed beta I purposely made a tank and a healer/support character. The tank was very fun, especially as I gained more and more strength with invulnerability. The support was harder solo and finding a team is a pain in CO right now. In a team setting, the group was unstoppable. Just a few heals and buffs so really far in CO.

There are still problems, but there is more hidden under the surface of the first 10 levels. Past 10 and you will probably be getting used to the nuances by then.

My biggest problem with Champions (and I didn't pay a red cent to get in the beta, eat it Fileplanet!) so far is the overall sluggishness of the UI. Every action seems to have a half-second delay. When things are running smoothly, though, combat is actually fairly fun and the lack of downtime is a refreshing departure from CoH.
