While not entirely unexpected -- especially since it was playable, but unnamed, at this year's E3 -- Star Wars: The Old Republic's Sith Warrior class has now been officially revealed and discussed by BioWare. We're expecting an official class page by Friday, but for now this Gamespot interview from GamesCom will have to sate our curiosity.
It'll come as no surprise that in their effort to emulate classic iconic movie characters, BioWare has decided to make the Sith Warrior a physically aggressive front line fighter who dons somewhat heavy armor. So, if your aspiration as a little boy or girl was to grow up and become just like Darth Vader, here's your chance.
Interestingly, while abilities such as Force Choke will be present in the Sith Warrior's skill set, the class leans between pure offense or a balanced defensive-offensive build. With such an emphasis on nitty gritty physical combat, many are starting to wonder if another Sith class will represent something akin to Emperor Palpatine, a heavy force user. We think there's a good chance that may happen, although it's all speculation until the actual reveal.

I tendo to see the Sith as something closer to DKs, while Jedi would concentrate on powers similar to those of a paladin. I still dont know how they are going to handle group dynamics on this game (is it going to be the tank-dps-healer model, or something different?), but, as they mentioned something about companions, every character could have additional layers of customization and utility, based on that (e.g., you could pack healing, CC, dps companions, idk).
Btw, I don't think I'm going to roll a Jedi right away. Planning on starting as a smuggler. (Han Solo ftw!)

This game should flow like the rest of the KOTOR series. i.e. human class, jedi class then perhaps hero jedi class like KOTOR 2. Sure some people have mentioned they won't roll a jedi but most will expecially the younger people. Like Kdolo said, "Who did you want to be more when you were a kid, Luke Skywalker or Han Solo?" i for one wanted to be a Jedi. After the NGE in SWG everyone rolled jedi and it ruined the game.
Having various jedi classes is the way to go. Jedi Sentinal, Jedi Guardian and Jedi Consular. I for one would be a more melee based Guardian, whereas, other may choose a more force based Consular. That would at least add an element of class variation while allowing everyone to play out their Jedi story. It also allows for epic jedi vs sith battles much like the E3 video clip has shown.
I think everyone should start as a base class i.e. a soldier for the republic who at level 10 discovers that he/she is force sensitive and through a series of quests gains force powers.
The best part here is say for example we had 4 base classes and 4 jedi classes you could mix and match to create various types of toons. Thus, making a potential 16 different combos making your toon more and more unique.
Think about it, a soldier that becomes a consular could have the benefits of a soldier crossed with the force powers of a consular. The alternate is to mix two tank like classes to make a really powerful tank etc etc etc.

Looking forward to playing a morally ambiguous smuggler.
Then when I get bored one day I might try a Sith warrior with a heart of gold.

the only reason people rolled Jedi in Galaxies pre-NGE is because it was the hardest thing to do at the time. It is the same reason why people want to do the top most end game content in WOW. It is all about the challenge.
That is why some people want to roll non-Jedi, they think it will be more challenging than the "Easy" way of being a Jedi. I have full faith that Bioware is aware of the importance of the challenge and will give players the opportunity to attempt the impossible.
They've already said that each class will has its pro's and cons. Maybe not completly balanced, but I doubt a sith warrior will be laying waste to waves of Republic Troopers.
Who knows if they will have multiple Jedi/Sith classes? The fact that they haven't showed us means they are trying to save up hype creating material, or they are still uncertain about the classes themselves. The later seems more likely. I am sure the reason we haven't heard about any juices details about damage output comparisons, or healer/tank/dps roles is because they are hashing out the logistics of that right now. Trying to figure out if Sith should be able to heal. Or if Jedi should have lightning. Or if they should create two Sith classes (Vader and Palpatine) or just one with different paths.
Remember this game doesn't even have a 2011 release date. it is impossible at this point for them to have all of the logistics of gameplay layed out, coded, and tested for gameplay/balance.

I don't remember where I heard/read this but TOR wont be tied down with the trinity system(Tank, DPS, Healer) that WoW has. It has been said that dungeons and instances will be group battles where you and a small group of friends are pitted against a larger force that all of you fight instead of a tank holding their attention while a healer heals him while dps kills him. The walkthrough that was released backs up this idea. In it, you see a sith warrior and a bounty hunter taking out a lot of ppl. The dungeons in this game seem to value teamwork more than dictating what a class is supposed to do.
