Speaking as a longtime Eve player, I have a bad feeling this is going to backfire. As others have pointed out, not much in Eve gets done that's not done by you and a handful of people you know really well. Player contracts/missions are a joke and something like 80% of the player base wants nothing to do with sovereignty wars. And those that do are, in my experience, generally pretty paranoid and not likely to trust anyone that's not in their clique with a used tissue, let alone a big chunk of cash for securing planets. Point being, I don't really see EVE organizations lining up to invest ISK in merc wars and if they're not careful it may well lead to the sort of half-assed, lopsided fighting associated with the much hyped but ultimately lame faction warfare system.

I also see this giving even more power to the big groups like Band of Brothers and particularly GoonSwarm, as they're active in multiple MMOs already and would no doubt set up a dedicated dust514 contingent. Who needs to pay mercenaries when you have 2000+ guys who'll do it for free because they're in your clan?

I think this is a great idea. from what i understand of this you will be able to, as an EVE player, hire DUST players to fight over planets. witch in turn means that players of EVE will be able to control planets, systems, and eventually even control a region. I mean instead of having the 4 races of EVE control everything, players would rise up and will and could possibly overrule the EVE Online world. The only thing i wonder about as a XBOX 360 player is if i have to just buy the game and pay XBOX Live to play or if i have to pay CCP and XBOX Live every month for DUST 514. If anyone knows something to prove my theory wrong then email me at rekojin@live.com or send me and EVE-Mail to Rekojin on EVE Online.

This is going to work if pod pilots have a reason to give a damn about who it is that controls a planet. Some of those potential reasons could be:
1] rewards for maintaining a productive operation on a planet,
2] ability to sell the sovereignty of a planet,
3] transfer of ISK from EVE to DUST and back,
4] the requirement to supply ground troopers during a campaign, forcing pod pilots to retain control of local space during the campaign, and,
5] providing a mechanism for guarding planets from attack that does not take the precious time of DUST players, who will crave action.

Oh ... and one more thing ...

I don't own a console because I cannot handle the interface. Sad but true.

Someone will have to invent, manufacture and market an interface for all of the consoles that is as simple and intuitive as the mouse or joystick before I will show any interest.

I use a PC for gaming for a reason. And I find no reason to change at this late date.

Sounds nice. Many good points have been said like Dust need to be simple but still interesting and tied to Eve mechanics, and give Eve players reasons to care about Dust fights.

I would like in Dust that they were not only Deathmatches but more like realtime continuous combat. I go to a planet, see the situation, evaluate tactical map, fight for a while, maybe set up some machinery, go to next planet or stay and so on. Going to next planet should be smooth like jumping to a ship, fly animation, jumping off the ship instead Deathmatch statistics popping into the screen and clicking Next Battle. I mean I would like to play the in between fights too. There could be some communication console that I use to make contracts with factions and then wait until their ship comes to pick me up. The ship could take me to another planet or to space station or to a mother ship. Maybe even meet Eve characters in there. In first phase meeting could be between avatars, but later add bodies for Eve players. Some fights could occur at stations.

In Eve then it would be really nice to be able to get down to the planet and see the fights. Would be nice for Eve players to see the tactical maps, situations and so on. But also would be great if Eve players could walk on the surface of the planet too. They would need to buy Dust then, but anyway. If the area is secured on the surface, you could arrange meetings there with other factions. Then a fight starts when some arguments arise, people need to take cover and quick exit. That would be cool.

Even when you are a newbie Eve player, it would be fun to land to an abandoned planet and investigate. Walk there for a while, maybe fight some fugitives, then head back to your ship and leave.
