Why console only? I'd love to play it, but on my PC... are they afraid that they gonna loose eve's 'PC subscribers' over it or something?

I don't play console games so CCP looses out on my $$ again. I'm still waiting for them to release Ambulation to be honest thats about the only thing that might get me back into EvE. Its far too boring as it is now and tacking on a FPS to go along with a spreadsheet mmo doesn't make an mmo any better its just a distraction.

It's a brilliant play on CCP's part though. Rather than trying to snatch up more MMO gamers, they're branching out to a new audience, both platform and genre-wise. What will really determine the success of Dust 514 is whether the impact Dust has on EVE will be significant enough for EVE players to care. However before that can happen Dust needs to cultivate a large enough following on its own, meaning the game needs to bring something to the table that will draw gamers away from playing Call of Duty 9: Modern Warfare 5 or Halo 8.

Dust brings persistence and consequence to CoD players thats its edge. I see the value in Dust for FPS players as its going to be a very unique and novel FPS. Its the fact that i see no benefit to EvE players is what bothers me. Dust will be great but in no way that i can see enhances EvE game play for the better.

You see no benefit to EVE players? How about Sov?

If this is anything like planetside, it is going to be awesome.
Officially excited, also awaiting the ever present EVE-naysayers to come and weigh in on this and tell me how EVE is dying (again).

How is other people playing Dust affecting Sov of a system a benefit to EvE's game play? It has nothing to do with EvE's game play its another game entirely affecting EvE's Sov but it wont make EvE better its not part of EvE except for it affecting Sov. So Yes I see no benefit in Dust for EvE players.

First of all it affects sovereignty of systems when it comes to factional warfare, and also sovereignty in 0.0 space for minerals and other possible commodities that will become apparent when the game is close to launching. It may even become more apparent right now as we are close to GDC and PAX and all that.

This is making me try out EVE. The changes sound awesome, and this might make EVE the exact game I'm looking for right now

I actually applaud CCP for making a MMO for just the console, instead of trying to make a game for both PC and Console together. Choose a platform, then stick with that platforms strengths, that's the best way to do it IMO.

Games like Age of Conan and Champions Online probably would have been a lot better games if they were designed from the beginning for one platform, instead they're developed all over the place because they try to please both styles of gameplay and wind up falling short in the end.

Fascinating. A whole new era for FPS past the Doom genre. Very intelligent way of evolving the computer game industry.

Regardless of what you think of EVE or Dust, the concepts and ideas CCP is coming up with in terms of game mechanics, social experimentation and how to make gaming interconnected is mind boggling.

To have a single server massively successful MMO connect with other games to create multi-game corporations, alliances and interaction just blows my mind. It's so...brave.

It's a risk, but if it pays off, we could see a whole new genre in gaming. Well, not so much a new genre, but more a layer on top genres.

For you WoW players, imagine if there were NPC cities and continents with endgame dungeons that were Horde or Alliance or NPC controlled based on Warcraft 3 (or maybe a new game, 4) tournaments?

A RTS that has consequences in an MMO. Not sure how they'd switch it back, but you get the idea.

This game is exactly what I have been hoping for. I just pray that they go for large scale epic battles over small matches and graphics. Gameplay is what makes games fun, not graphics. The most fun I have ever had in a game was Planetside and I hope Dust can far exceed what PS has to offer.

If they can put in resource gathering and crafting for weapons/armor/vehicles and keep combat as large as possible I can see myself playing it for a long time and probably resubbing to eve-online as well. I'm not 100% sold on the console idea since I hate the lack of control with a controller vs mouse/keyboard but will be more than willing to try it if they promise huge fights. Let Global Agenda have match play and please give me epic, large scale battles in Dust.

As a long term player in the Eve universe, some 5 years now I can tell you CCP does "Epic" my friend. If you look at the clip there and see those missiles flying off and hitting that drop ship you also notice valleys and mountains in the distance behind. My guessing is the you'll get your epic landscape and play.

Eve wise if you look at the planets in game there are a hole range of environments listed on the planetary stats, so I'm guessing you'll have no end of fun playing and strategy planning for these different environments.

I mean look at the detail in the thing, there is a hell of a lot of detail in the little things, CCP are well known for that here in the EvE universe. You ground console grunts are going to have an epic time shooting it up and fighting it out.

Oh and lastly Stan, something else to keep in mind, being the its a MMO and linked to EvE they will being constantly tweaking it and patch upgrading it as time goes bye.

You lot are in for a wild time! Great move for the CCP, great move for all us game both sides of the fence.

This is a huge gamble that could really backfire if done half assed.

Sovereignty is EVE's 'endgame' as it were. We knew (and demanded) that changes to the existing system be made. Nobody asked that future changes to Sov be tied to the actions of players in a separate MMO.

Wars are presently fought in paranoid, desperate affairs which involve heavy amounts of trust, loyalty, deceit and metagaming to win, or merely to survive. Asking another MMOs playerbase to care about, participate in or even understand the context of these political machinations is dubious. Asking EVEs playerbase to stand by while the issues directly affecting their gameplay are resolved in another MMO is equally dubious.

CCP mentioned that this is a contribution to the Sov of a system, not the only deciding factor. The new Sov system is supposed to have many inputs to it, DUST, POSes, fights, occupation, etc.

Worrying that sov has been outsourced is a little premature, you're just going to hire some DUST clans to help tip the sov in your favour.
